Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 850

It had taken considerable effort, but Sabrina had managed to befriend one of Old Mr. Blake's regular chess buddies, Mr. Sterling. Through him, she orchestrated the perfect bait.

Old Mr. Blake didn't have many hobbies in his twilight years, but he was fiercely competitive when it came to chess. He had a tight circle of opponents, and they usually played for minor stakes—a handcrafted board here, a rare set of pieces there.

Normally, he played in the afternoons and went straight home to spend the evening with his wife. He rarely stayed out late. But today, Mr. Sterling had practically begged him to check out a new, exclusive club for an evening match.

Mr. Sterling had no idea he was a pawn in a larger game. He genuinely just thought they were trying out a new VIP parlor.

When they arrived at the private venue, Old Mr. Blake immediately frowned. "What kind of establishment is this? The lighting is dreadful. I told you we should have stuck to playing during the day."

Mr. Sterling was already setting up the pieces on the mahogany table. "We're already here, my friend. Let's just focus on the game. Nothing else matters."

Old Mr. Blake sighed, taking his seat. "Fine. One match. Once there's a winner, I'm going home."

"Deal."

The two older men focused on the board, the world around them fading away.

Hidden in the dimly lit hallway outside, Sabrina and Debbie watched through the cracked door.

"See?" Sabrina whispered triumphantly. "I told you I'd deliver him. Once they finish their little game, the rest is entirely up to you."

"Don't worry, Sabrina. I've got this handled," Debbie murmured. "Tomorrow is the big day. You must have a million things to do for the wedding. Go home and take care of your daughter. I'll take it from here."

Back at the club, the second Sabrina vanished, Debbie's demure act dropped.

She signaled down the hall. A moment later, Vesper appeared.

The young woman looked devastating. Her makeup was flawless, and her dress clung to every curve, leaving very little to the imagination.

Debbie pulled her to the cracked door and pointed at the table. "The older gentleman on the left. See? I wasn't lying. An old Ferrari is still a Ferrari. He was strikingly handsome in his prime."

Vesper giggled softly. "I don't mind, boss. As long as the money clears, a bed is a bed."

Debbie's eyes turned predatory. "Oh, he won't be inviting you to bed. But don't worry, I've already handled the logistics. Once we get him upstairs, he's going to be completely drugged. He won't be able to tell up from down, but physically? The cocktail I'm giving him will make sure he performs just fine."
