Lillian spoke calmly, though a flicker of undeniable heartache crossed her features. "They always claimed they loved me, spoiled me, and cared for me, but the truth is, they only ever cared about themselves.
They knew absolutely nothing about what I liked or what I did. To them, throwing money at me to cover my basic needs was the pinnacle of love and devotion.
They never actually did anything for me personally. Every single responsibility was pawned off onto my mom and grandma.
So now, as far as I'm concerned, my mom and grandma are the only real family I have left."
The pang of sorrow faded quickly.
Why should she waste her tears on the three Mercer men?
"Do you need me to step in?" Leonard Prescott asked softly.
Lillian shook her head. "There's no need. People can gossip about my identity all they want, but they can't take away the knowledge in my head, and they certainly can't prove anything.
I'm not in the mood for a movie anymore. Let's just rest early and stick to our plan.
As for the rest of this mess, just ignore it."
She had no intention of stepping forward to defend herself.
Did she really need to prove her worth to the Mercer family?
The Lillionix Grand Launch had already showcased exactly what her company was capable of building.
Anyone looking to collaborate would do so for the sake of the technology, and this drama wouldn't impact their business prospects in the slightest.
As for people seeking her out personally, she wasn't going to take on any new projects before Leonard's second phase of treatment, no matter how much they praised her genius.
Once this chaotic launch period settled, she was going to wait for Leonard's health to stabilize, guide him through his next treatment, and free him from the illness tormenting him.
Lillian saw the news alerts and didn't even blink.
Nathan Cole, however, was absolutely furious.
He kicked his chair, slammed his fists on the desk, and swept a stack of files onto the floor in a fit of rage.
"Those Mercer bastards are absolute garbage!" he roared. "They just have to crawl out of the woodwork to stir up trouble, don't they? They just can't stand to see Lillian succeed!"
His assistant hesitated. "Mr. Cole, a lot of people are believing the Mercer family's claims. Will this affect Lillionix?"
Nathan took a deep breath. "I haven't played cyber-avenger in a long time. Today, I'm taking those shameless jerks down!"
Without another word, Nathan marched over to the massive safe in his office and spun the dial.
He muttered under his breath as he pulled out a stack of hard drives. "Shameless pieces of trash. Just wait. I'm going to rip you all to shreds!"
