Martin suddenly changed his tune, asking eagerly, "Bella, you're divorcing Sebastian, and you can really get that much money?"
Bella looked completely self-assured, speaking with utter confidence. "Of course. The Blakes are the number one family in Northwyn. Sebastian has held a massive amount of shares since he first took over as CEO of the Blake Group. I know exactly how much money that company rakes in every year. If he wants to brush me off with thirty or fifty billion, I'll take it without complaint. But if he refuses, I have other leverage ready."
Martin's brain was swimming in dollar signs.
His expression instantly softened, as if the stolen million from his credit card was pocket change.
His tone became fawning. "Bella, have you thought about how you're going to manage all that settlement money? That's not a small sum. I really think you should allocate a portion for investments. That way, your money makes money, and you'll become even wealthier. Just a suggestion from your dad, of course."
Bella knew exactly what Martin was scheming. She had heard rumors about the Mercer Group desperately seeking outside investments. But they didn't have any viable projects left, making investors impossible to find. They had hit a dead end.
She offered a light smile. To diffuse the current tension, she tossed him a bone. "Investments are a must, of course. I could never spend all that money just sitting on it. And since our family's company happens to need capital, I'll definitely take it into consideration. After all, I am a part of this company too."
Martin was ecstatic. That was exactly what he wanted to hear.
"Are you serious? Thirty to fifty billion? She's only been married to the guy for a few days. Can she really get that much? You sure she isn't just stringing you along?"
"Why would she?" Martin argued. "You know how powerful the Blakes are. We made a fortune just feeding off the scraps of their connections. Imagine what Sebastian is pulling in. His net worth is astronomical—that's a fact. As long as Bella has the guts to get the money, she promised she'd invest in our company. Honestly, she's a hundred times better than that ungrateful wretch Lillian. So what if Lillian has talent? She married Sebastian first, hyped up her own abilities, and for what? She couldn't even keep her man. Even if she has a little money, how could she compare to the Blake fortune? She didn't even fight for a dime in the divorce and walked away with nothing. Useless."
As he ranted, a thought struck him. "Speaking of which, we sent her that legal notice. Why hasn't she responded yet? We are legally entitled to eighty percent of the shares in that algorithm! What is she playing at by ignoring us? Is she just stalling for time?"
"There's no way she's just going to roll over and give it to us out of the blue," Brandon said.
