Seeing the balance of over two million dollars suddenly appear on her phone, Bella let out a long sigh of relief.
She was desperately short on cash lately. Money was bleeding out of her from every direction, and her expenses far exceeded her income.
While the amount she wrung out of Debbie wasn't a fortune, it gave her some breathing room.
At the very least, it was more than enough to cover her bodyguards' wages for a long time to come.
However, Bella had absolutely no intention of returning the money Debbie had stolen from Sabrina's phone, even though Martin Mercer seemed to care quite a bit about that missing sum.
Now that the money was in her hands, why on earth would she give it back?
That wasn't how she operated.
Besides, she hadn't even mentioned the recovered funds to Sabrina, quietly pocketing the cash instead.
She was going to need a lot of money for what lay ahead.
That night, Bella simply informed Sabrina to check on Debbie at the hotel the following day.
Sabrina was heavily reluctant. "Bella, why don't we just send a maid from the house to look after her?
I'm still leagues above her in status. Why should I lower myself to serve her?
Besides, that woman has a filthy mouth. She's always cursing, and I don't want to hear it.
If she wants something to eat, she can order room service herself. I don't want anything to do with her."
Bella cut her off dismissively. "I'm heading to the Mercer Group Tech Division tomorrow to get up to speed on my new role. I don't have the time.
I'm leaving Debbie to you. Just keep an eye on her. And don't worry, she won't be in any condition to curse at you."
"With that mouth of hers..." Sabrina started to argue.
Before she could finish her sentence, Bella lost her patience and retreated to her room.
"Fine, I'll find some time to check on her tomorrow."
The Mercer family was in sharp decline, completely stripped of their former glory, so Bella naturally didn't bother to feign politeness.
"On my shoulders? Dad, you forgot you have a biological daughter out there. Do I really need to remind you how brilliant she is?
If you could actually get her on board—not even to work full-time, but just to offer a minor partnership—the Mercer Group would bounce back instantly.
You've been in this industry for decades; you should know that better than anyone.
Oh, right. You severed all ties with her. From the looks of it, she wouldn't give you the time of day.
What a shame. Lillian's low-altitude economy concepts are genuinely impressive. I would've loved to see them in action, but since you can't even secure a meeting with her, I suppose I'll never get the chance."
Just as she was speaking, Brandon came walking down the stairs.
He happened to be holding a stack of documents. Seeing Bella sitting there, he tossed the files directly in front of her.
"Here's your new scope of work. You already handled smartphones and home appliances during your time at the Blake Group, and frankly, that market is completely monopolized by them anyway.
