Tyler said, looking at Emilia with a heart full of pain.
"And the messages Vivienne sent you... I know about them. Emilia, I know you weren't lying to me. It was my fault. I doubted you, and I hurt you."
Emilia pressed her lips together, suppressing her emotions, and waited for him to continue.
"A lot has happened these past few days."
Tyler began.
"I hurt you."
He said each word carefully.
"And Vivienne isn't a good person."
"I've found out a lot of things."
"And about Vivienne and me…"
He looked even more tormented.
"I don't really love her. It was a deal I made with her—to stay with her for six months to repay a debt I owed her."
Hearing this, Emilia couldn't help but laugh.
Tears streamed from the corners of her eyes.
"I don't understand what you could possibly owe her," she said, "that required you to repay it like this."
"And back then…"
Emilia's brow furrowed as her emotions welled up.
She took a deep breath, reining in her feelings, and continued, "Back when we were still on good terms, you could have just told me. We could have figured out how to solve it together."
She wasn't an unreasonable person.
If Vivienne had truly done them a great service, she would have repaid her.
But Tyler's eyes were filled with sorrow.
"It would have been useless," he said. "She only wanted one thing."
At this point, Emilia felt there was nothing left to say.
"Since you made your decision, you should go have a good life with her."
"I don't want to be with her," Tyler said. "I just wanted to get through these six months with her, but…"
"But what?" Emilia stared at Tyler, a mocking smile on her face. "Is it because I didn't just wait around obediently for you like you expected?"
Tyler's lips were pressed into a thin, tight line. Under the bedroom lights, he looked haggard.
But Emilia just smiled.
As she smiled, tears continued to fall.
