Tyler was met with another punch.
"She is her own person!" Theodore roared.
Even the usually calm, unflappable Theodore felt like he was about to lose his mind.
From the moment he got the call from the driver at the school, he had been investigating, desperately tracking them down after learning Tyler had taken Emilia. He had found their location.
He had heard her wretched screams, had his men wait outside while he burst in to see... that.
All of it made it impossible for him to remain calm.
Tyler had actually done this!
He had tried to force himself on Emilia!
Theodore glanced at Tyler's unbuckled belt. If he had been even a second later...
On the bed, Emilia was still screaming unconsciously, her cries interspersed with pleas of "Please..."
Theodore delivered one last kick to Tyler's leg, ensuring he wouldn't be getting up soon, then hurried back to the bed to untie Emilia.
But she seemed not to recognize him.
"Emilia!"
Theodore cupped her face, trying to make her look at him.
But the moment he touched her, she screamed again, her voice hoarse.
Theodore's heart shattered.
"It's me, Emilia. It's me, Theodore." Theodore's eyes were rimmed with red.
Anger, pain, self-blame... the mix of emotions was nearly driving him mad.
"I beat him. He's gone now," Theodore soothed. "You're safe, Emilia."
But Emilia still didn't recognize him. She trembled violently, her face streaked with tears and Tyler's blood. She looked utterly broken.
"It's okay, Emilia. It's okay." A tear escaped the corner of Theodore's eye.
"Emilia, don't be afraid. I'm here," he said, his voice soft. "Emilia, it's Theodore. Try to remember, you still have Bella, and we still have to find the truth about your father, Inman Dennis's, death. You have to be okay..."
Tears fell freely. It wasn't until she heard the names Bella and Inman that Emilia finally paused.
Her chest rose and fell rapidly, and she was shaking so hard her teeth were chattering.
She slowly turned her head and looked at Theodore.
"Theodore," she whispered, her voice raspy.
