“Go get some rest. I’m fine,” Emilia said, her voice still hoarse.
Theodore held the hand that was touching his cheek.
“I want to be with you,” he said.
Looking at his gentle face, Emilia couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
“Knock, knock!”
Just then, a knock came at the bedroom door.
Wilma entered.
“Bella would like to see Miss Dennis,” Wilma said, looking at Emilia with concern.
“Miss Dennis, are you…” Wilma started, but trailed off, unsure of how to continue.
She was afraid of saying the wrong thing and triggering bad memories for Emilia.
Emilia understood Wilma’s hesitation. She didn’t address it directly, instead saying, “Let her in. I’m fine now.”
Emilia straightened her pajamas.
She noticed that her pajamas had been changed again. She glanced at Theodore but said nothing.
“The doctor came to check on you and applied some medicine,” Theodore said, noticing her glance. She had been covered in sweat each time she woke up last night, so he had naturally been the one to change her clothes.
He didn't want to dwell on that, however, and just said, “The wounds might get itchy as they heal. Try not to scratch them, and they won’t leave scars.”
Emilia nodded.
The injuries on her wrists were bandaged, and she had Theodore get her a scarf to cover the marks on her neck.
Bella came running in.
“Emilia!” Bella scurried to her bedside.
“Bella,” Emilia said with a small smile, reaching out to stroke Bella’s little face.
Bella noticed the bandages on Emilia’s wrist. She held Emilia’s hand and gently blew on it.
“Emilia, does it hurt?” Bella’s eyes turned red.
Emilia kissed Bella’s forehead. “With you blowing on it for me, it stopped hurting a long time ago.”
“Miss Emilia, oh…”
Theodore sat to the side, watching them. Wilma knocked again, and Theodore went to the door. She informed him that Dr. Raine had arrived.
Theodore nodded.
Bella left for school.
“Do you think something big happened? Nothing like this has ever occurred in all these years.”
“Hurry up and ask around…”

Meanwhile, the three men at the center of the gossip were in very different situations. Tyler was lying in a hospital bed, while Theodore and Christian were rushing toward that very hospital.
Christian had nearly exploded when he got the news that morning.
He had first gone to Glenn Manor to find Theodore and had seen Emilia from a distance.
Now, the two of them were in Theodore’s car, speeding toward the hospital where Tyler was admitted.
Theodore recounted everything he knew, then added, “What was said before I arrived, only the two of them know. Emilia’s condition is fragile, so I haven’t dared to ask her.”
Thump!
Christian slammed his fist against the car door, gritting his teeth so hard he could have shattered them.
His eyes burned with rage and hatred.
“How could he do this!” Christian fumed. He had truly believed, based on Tyler’s recent behavior, that he was remorseful.
If he regretted his actions and had feelings for her, he never should have hurt Emilia.
