Emilia cried out softly and covered her neck, but Tyler had already seen it.
As the scarf fell away, a network of angry, vicious scars was revealed, extending down into the collar of her shirt.
From Tyler’s angle, he could see that the marks continued under her clothes.
Theodore pulled her into his arms, shielding her from Tyler’s view. His face was cold, his lips pressed into a thin line as he snatched the scarf from Tyler’s hand.
“Don’t be afraid, Emilia. I’ll tie it for you.”
Theodore spoke softly, then carefully retied the scarf, hiding the scars once more.
Tyler just stood there watching, all his earlier anger gone, replaced by a sense of utter helplessness.
He had known something was wrong with Emilia the moment he saw her.
He had only wanted to talk to her, yet she had suddenly… fallen apart.
He hadn't done what he did at the apartment. He hadn’t forced her today.
He had only brought his men to counter Theodore.
He had no other intentions.
“What’s wrong with her…?” Tyler couldn’t help but ask.
Theodore didn’t look at him, his voice icy. “I told you, if you want her to die, keep provoking her!”
Tyler stared at Theodore in disbelief.
But he saw the seriousness in Theodore’s eyes, and the hatred he held for him.
He suddenly remembered what Theodore had said when he came to the hospital.
*Her condition is worse…*
Tyler’s gaze fell to the silk scarf around Emilia’s neck.
Those scars. Theodore had said she’d scrubbed herself so hard she’d broken the skin.
Before, when Theodore had just told him, he hadn’t had a clear picture of what that meant. But now, seeing the change in Emilia, seeing those scars with his own eyes, he realized… things were not that simple.
She was truly sick.
