Vivienne’s expression froze.
She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but no words came out.
Emilia was still looking at her, her expression unnervingly calm.
She hadn't said a single harsh word, yet every syllable seemed to strike like thunder.
The crowd, which had hesitated moments before due to Vivienne’s public vow, now had a sudden realization.
*That's right. It's easy to prove whether she's sick or not. All it takes is a medical exam.* This was the collective thought running through everyone's mind.
Moreover, Emilia had said any hospital would do.
This ruled out the possibility of Emilia colluding with a hospital.
After all, there were specialized, official agencies that could perform the examination.
Vivienne stood frozen, glaring daggers at her. Emilia didn't press her.
But her silent gaze made Vivienne feel as if she were facing a formidable enemy.
Vivienne felt that no matter how much she struggled, she couldn't shake the woman before her.
“Vivienne, why don’t you just get the exam?” someone in the crowd said. “The results will reveal the truth.”
But this only agitated Vivienne further.
“I won’t!” Vivienne shouted, startling the person who had just spoken.
“Emilia, who knows what kind of scheme you’re plotting! I won’t fall into your trap of having to prove my own innocence. I’m not going!”
“Emilia, what is it you’re trying to take from me?!”
Even now, Vivienne was still trying to sling mud at Emilia.
Emilia lowered her gaze slightly, glancing at the shredded papers on the table.
She said, “All I want is what rightfully belongs to me.”
For some reason, those words stung Vivienne.
