In the coffeehouse.
The three of them entered a private room.
Tyler’s assistant waited outside with the wheelchair.
Someone soon brought in coffee, and the door to the room was closed.
The room fell silent.
Emilia sat beside Theodore, while Tyler sat opposite them.
The table and the fragrant coffee upon it formed a barrier between them.
Tyler’s eyes were bloodshot.
“You’ve gotten thinner,” he said softly.
Emilia didn’t answer him, cutting straight to the point.
She said, “When do you plan on giving me the Dennis family’s assets?”
Tyler’s lips tightened as he looked at her sadly.
*Straight to business, then?*
“Is there nothing else you’re willing to talk about?” he asked. “Can’t we… can’t we just talk for a bit?”
The atmosphere grew tense.
Theodore picked up the coffeepot, poured a cup for Emilia, and handed it to her.
Emilia took the cup and had a sip.
The coffee was fragrant.
“Tyler,” Emilia said, looking at him, “since you already know everything, you should also know that there’s nothing left for us to talk about.”
Theodore also frowned. “Tyler, everything Emilia has done for the Erickson Group over the years is more than enough to have earned back the Dennis family’s assets.”
Tyler watched the coffeecup in Emilia’s hand. He saw Theodore’s gesture, and how naturally she accepted it.
Every detail spoke of the intimacy between them.
It seemed like a simple, everyday act for them. The sight of it made Tyler’s heart ache.
“If you don’t want to discuss the Dennis family’s assets, then please leave,” Emilia continued.
“I’ll give them to you,” Tyler answered.
She didn't care what Tyler was saying; she only wanted that final result.
“Yes, I said it,” Tyler replied softly, his eyes red. “I promise you. That’s my word.”
“Fine,” Emilia said.
She glanced at Theodore, then stood up.
Theodore stood as well, and the two of them started to walk out.
“Emilia!” Tyler also stood up, enduring the pain.
Emilia didn't look at him, her eyes slightly downcast. “Is there something else?”
“Can you ask Theodore to leave first? I have something else I need to say to you,” he pleaded.
“No,” Theodore said warily. “Tyler, I know exactly what kind of person you are!”
The incident at the apartment was still fresh in his mind. There was no way he would leave Tyler alone in a room with Emilia.
The room fell silent. Tyler pressed his lips together.
Just as Emilia was about to turn and leave, he lowered his head. Ignoring Theodore standing right there, he bent his knees and knelt before her.
