He would beg for her forgiveness. Beg her to keep just a tiny corner of her heart for him. Beg for one last chance.
Since she refused to accept a backup plan, then she would just have to be his and his alone.
They hadn't signed any marriage papers yet. She didn't legally belong to Theodore.
Even if they were sleeping together, she wasn't Theodore's wife.
Tyler slammed his hand down on the intercom, and his assistant rushed into the room seconds later.
"Mr. Erickson?"
"Get the car. We're going to Vivienne's hospital," Tyler ordered, his voice raw.
"Right away, sir," his assistant nodded, moving instantly.
...
Back at Glenn Manor.
Out in the courtyard by the koi pond.
Emilia looked at Joyce and let out a dry laugh. "He's out of his damn mind."
"Entertaining that nonsense would be a total insult to Theodore."
"But even taking Theodore out of the equation, the answer is still no. Because I was done with Tyler a long time ago."
"Theodore or no Theodore, I will never take him back."
It was just the two of them, away from prying ears.
Because of that, Emilia didn't sugarcoat a single word.
They had been thick as thieves since childhood. There were no secrets between them.
Joyce absorbed the firm answer and nodded thoughtfully.
They took a seat on a nearby bench, passing the heavy cat between them.
"And what about Theodore?" Joyce pressed further.
"He treats me incredibly well," Emilia replied, tossing the last of her fish food into the water. "And he's amazing with Bella."
Joyce stared at her profile. "But do you actually like him? Are you in love with him?"
"Emily, don't lie to me," she demanded softly.
She needed the unfiltered truth.
If Emilia gave even a hint of hesitation, Joyce was fully prepared to pack her bags and pull her out of there.
The McCarthy family might not have had the billionaire backing of the Erickson, Glenn, or Donovan empires, but they had their own power and resources.
"Are you serious?" she gasped, looking Emilia up and down in shock.
"Yeah," Emilia nodded, feeling a heavy flush creeping up her neck.
That was all the confirmation Joyce needed.
If Emilia wasn't wildly in love, there was no way she would have taken things into the bedroom like that.
It seemed her brother had lost this fight a long time ago.
But thankfully, Felix had finally accepted it.
"Good," Joyce let out a relieved breath. "Because I was just plotting my escape route."
"Plotting what?" Emilia arched an eyebrow.
"I was thinking that if you weren't head over heels for him, I was going to kidnap you and make a run for it," Joyce grinned mischievously. "Just like when we were kids. Even if it meant my brother would kill me for it, I was getting you out."
Tears pricked Emilia's eyes as she threw her arms around Joyce.
"You're an idiot," Emilia choked out, laughing through her emotion.
"You're the idiot," Joyce retorted, hugging her back fiercely. "Look at you getting all sappy."
She just hoped that from this day forward, Emilia would never have to shed another painful tear.
