"There's no need," Tyler replied. Watching the server bring in the fresh bottles, he immediately refilled his and Owen's glasses.
Owen was practically buzzing with anxiety.
"So what are you going to do? She's marrying Theodore!" Owen blurted out. He hesitated, looking like he was swallowing something foul, but finally forced the words out. "They've probably already slept together, man."
Tyler didn't even look at him.
He already knew they had been intimate.
Emilia had told him herself, explicitly to kill any lingering hope he had.
He didn't care.
Seeing Tyler simply continue to drink without a word of response, Owen was utterly floored.
"Are you seriously still waiting for her to come back?" The concept was entirely beyond his comprehension.
Tyler finally set his glass down on the table.
"She'll understand me," he stated with delusional stubbornness.
"Oh, my god," Owen groaned, burying his face in his hands.
"Buddy, she's literally about to marry another guy. You really think she's sitting around 'understanding' you?" he asked in utter disbelief.
"It won't be long now," Tyler said. All he had to do was wait for his people to corner Eugene.
As soon as they caught Eugene, he could drag both him and Vivienne straight to the police, request a closed-door trial, and finally resolve this entire nightmare.
That only made Owen's blood boil even hotter.
He took a vicious gulp of his drink, but the alcohol did nothing to extinguish his frustration.
Finally, he snapped, "Man, if you wait much longer, Emilia's going to start showing."
Tyler shot him a dark, miserable glare.
Emilia, pregnant...
A suffocating wave of despair washed over Tyler.
He had called Felix McCarthy later on and found out about her condition. It was practically a miracle she could even conceive at all.
Both of the babies she had lost were his fault...
She had spent years nursing her body back to health, desperately trying to recover from the physical trauma of the miscarriage in Cerulion, just to get pregnant a second time.
