Five Alphas Kneel for Me (Isabella) novel Chapter 101

Chapter 101

Caleb’s insomnia didn’t improve after drinking the soup. After returning home, he took some sleeping draughts; he felt drowsy but couldn’t sleep.

His wolf was restless, a low unease settling over him.

He went downstairs and ran into Emily.

Emily, he sat on the sofa, closing his eyes.

Can you massage me? Like Isabella used to?

Disgust flashed across Emily’s face, quickly masked by a gentle smile.

Her wolf was seething, the forced pleasantries a thin veil over her true feelings.

Of course, Caleb. I’d be happy to help you. But Jared’s training is about to start. The competition is just in a week

Just then, Jared came downstairs with his keys, unaware of their conversation.

Emily, hurry up; we should go.He then noticed Caleb on the sofa.

Caleb, you’re here? Did the soup help with your insomnia?

Caleb wanted to shake his head, but the movement made him feel worse, and he closed his eyes in discomfort. His wolf was growing weary, the lack of sleep weighing heavily.

Jared assumed he was fine, thinking he could sleep on the sofa, and dragged Emily away. Their scents, a mix of impatience and resentment, wafted past him.

Leaning back on the sofa, Caleb’s thoughts drifted to me. Even during the busiest times of my senior year, I never stopped giving him massages.

His wolf remembered the comforting touch, the warmth that soothed his anxieties.

Opening his eyes, he gazed at the empty living room, a wave of bitterness washing over him. Suddenly, he realized he might have made a mistake.

His wolf whimpered, a low, mournful sound.

Rubbing his temples to ease the headache, he decided to head to the kitchen. Is there any soup left from yesterday? Give me a bowl.

He sat at the dining table, hoping to fall asleep.

The maid said apologetically,

Second Master, the soup is gone. I threw it out while cleaning the kitchen yesterday. Miss Miller said the soup should be made fresh each time; it spoils overnight.

She muttered softly, What a waste. So many good ingredients, simmered for six whole hours. The person has to

keep an eye on it, or it could burn or spoil.

Hearing this, Caleb felt a pang of sadness. He hadn’t considered how much effort went into that small bowl of soup. It suddenly struck him that he had overlooked my contributions, and guilt crept in. His wolf felt a wave of

regret.

Make me another bowl. Bring it to my room when it’s done.He stood up, ready to head upstairs for some rest.

The maid looked embarrassed. Second Master, I can’t. Only Miss Miller knows how to make it.

Her voice lowered.

I wanted to learn to help her. She’s so busybut I couldn’t learn.

In truth, she had hoped to master it to please the family, thinking that even if she left the Miller pack, it would be a useful skill, but she just couldn’t get it right!

Caleb frowned, confusion lacing his voice.

How did Emily make it yesterday?Emily had returned to the hospital and back in under an hour, unlike the six hours I took.

His wolf sensed deception, a prickling unease running through him.

He realized the care he took for granted was precious and unattainable.

His wolf finally understood the depth of Isabella’s actions.

Suddenly, he realized that the care he once took for granted had become so precious and out of reach.

The maid looked distraught.

I don’t know. Miss Carter asked for the recipe and told me to buy the ingredients.

After she got everything, she went into the kitchen by herself and didn’t let me help.

The maid’s scent was one of confusion and fear.
