Caleb frowned; wasn’t Jared being overly aggressive?

My wolf felt a prickle of unease; this wasn’t just about the Heart of the Moon anymore.

It felt personal.

Before he could speak, the auctioneer’s voice echoed through the cavernous grotto.

“Next, we have the highly anticipated treasure of the night–the Heart of the Moon! Starting bid, five million silver!”

Jared’s eyes gleamed with fierce determination as he raised his paddle.

“Six million!” His voice boomed, silencing the murmurs of the assembled wolves. His wolf was clearly dominant and territorial.

Then, he looked toward Grayson, a taunting smile playing on his lips, exuding an air of confident expectation.

That bracelet was his, he declared silently. His wolf was confident and arrogant.

Grayson leaned back, a playful smirk on his lips.

He raised his paddle languidly.

“Six million one hundred thousand.”

Jared’s anger flared; he bid,

“Seven million!” His wolf growled in frustration.

Grayson calmly bid, “Seven million one hundred thousand.” He seemed to be enjoying the game.

Jared’s temples throbbed; he gritted his teeth, yelling, “Eight million!” His wolf was snarling, frustrated and angry.

Grayson chuckled, bidding, “Eight million one hundred thousand.” His gaze was playful, fixed on Jared’s enraged face.

Jared stood abruptly, his chair scraping against the stone floor. His eyes were bloodshot; he roared, “Where’s the Pack Elder? Get someone here! I want to offer a Blood Bond tribute to my sister! I’m securing this necklace!”

Emily covered her mouth, tears shimmering in her eyes. She trembled slightly, looking at Jared with gratitude. She whimpered, “Jared! You are so kind! Thank you!” Her wolf was pleased.

Jared’s vanity was his alpha’s weakness.

The auctioneer exclaimed, “Wow! This Alpha is offering a Blood Bond tribute to his sister! Amazing! To be his sister is a true blessing!”

He gestured to a Pack Elder to assist Jared with the paperwork.

Jared turned around, reveling in his triumph, his eyes gleaming with challenge and victory. He stared at Grayson

But Grayson and I completely ignored him, ignoring Jared’s blatant provocation. He was busy chatting with the Pack Elder, wearing a calm smile.

Grayson’s demeanor was effortlessly elegant and relaxed, his profile sharp under the soft glow of the moonstones.

His scent was even more appealing. My wolf was captivated.

Jared’s expression darkened; his fists clenched involuntarily, veins popping on his hands.

His wolf felt defeated and humiliated.

A wave of helplessness washed over him, like hitting a wall of solid rock–no purchase to be found! Anger churned in his chest, but he had no outlet.

The Pack Elder, after hearing Grayson’s instructions, hurried off.

Moments later, he returned, holding a jewelry box. He approached Grayson, opening the box to reveal its

contents.

He didn’t shy away from the crowd; those nearby could see what was inside–a magnificent set of blue diamond jewelry!

Each diamond was larger and more brilliant than those in the necklace Jared was acquiring!

The auctioneer announced,

“The next item has been acquired by Mr. Smith for one hundred million silver, as a Blood Bond gift for his sister, so it will not be auctioned.”

Both were blue diamond gifts, the same gesture for a sister, but Jared had been utterly outmaneuvered!

Jared’s face was ashen.

He realized Grayson had only bid to drive up the price! Grayson had been there to strategically outmaneuver him! His wolf felt a deep sense of shame and defeat.
