Chapter 131

As night fell, the Miller den was wrapped in a blanket of silence. Emily tiptoed into my room, her heart pounding like a drum.
The Blood Moon cast its silvery light through the den’s entrance, creating a path of light on the floor.
Her wolf felt a mixture of excitement and fear.
She cautiously opened the wardrobe, rifling through drawers, her fingertips trembling with every touch.
Her wolf was acutely aware of the risk.
Her eyes scanned the darkness until they landed on a stack of papers tucked in the desk drawer.
Holding her breath, she slowly lifted the sheets. Under the faint Blood Moon light, she saw the elegant, flowing lines–it was a draft. Her eyes lit up instantly; a triumphant smile curved her lips.
Her wolf celebrated this illicit victory.

Then, out of nowhere, the door handle turned, hitting her like a lightning bolt. In a panic, she stuffed the sketches into her skirt; her heart nearly bursting out of her chest.
Her wolf panicked, urging her to flee.
The door creaked open; and there stood Caleb, tall and imposing.
His wolf’s presence filled the room, a silent threat.
His gaze was sharp as an eagle’s, sweeping the room.
His wolf scanned for intruders.
Emily froze, her face pale, clutching her skirt tightly, terrified of giving herself away. She forced herself to stay calm, managing a shaky smile.“Caleb, why aren’t you resting in your den?”
Her wolf struggled to maintain control.
Caleb stood in the doorway, his face dark and brooding, brows furrowed, eyes cold. Moonlight cast a long shadow on the floor.
His wolf’s senses were on high alert.
Emily’s heart skipped a beat; cold sweat formed on her palms. She forced composure, her voice trembling. “Isabella left in a hurry; she didn’t take her things. I just wanted to see if she left anything important; I wanted to give it to her.”
Her wolf was desperately trying to construct a believable lie.
Caleb’s expression softened slightly, but his gaze remained sharp. He took out his comm–stone, quickly typing. Then he showed her the screen.“Don’t come to Isabella’s den again.” His wolf was warning her.
She clenched her fists so hard her nails dug into her palms, pain barely masking her calm facade. She lowered her head, a flash of deep hatred flickering in her eyes before vanishing. She lifted her head again, wearing a meek, obedient smile. “Okay, Caleb. I won’t touch Isabella’s things.”
Her wolf was simmering with rage and betrayal.
Caleb nodded coldly, stepping aside, silently indicating she should leave.

His wolf felt a deep sense of unease.
Emily avoided his gaze and took my design draft. Caleb rarely cared about me or my den, unaware of what was missing. His wolf’s senses were clearly dulled.

Once she had the draft, Emily hurried back to her den, scrutinizing it. The more she looked, the more impressed she was–then jealousy crept in. How come I always do everything best? Her smile twisted into something sinister, but it didn’t matter anymore. Everything of mine was hers now.
Her wolf was consumed by possessiveness and envy.
She quickly accessed the Howlnet, searching major online design databases. As results popped up, her brows relaxed.“No registration information,” she smirked.“Safe.”
Her wolf felt a sense of victory.
