Chapter 180
My gase turned colder, fixed on Alexander. His wolf cowered, his scent reeking of fear. He backed away, terrified.
Just then, Jared burst in, shocked at the sight of his soaked, pathetic brother. His wolf’s concern was palpable, but he was restrained by Grayson’s bodyguards.
He looked at me.
“Isabella… he looked troubled. Brother and sister; the complexities of pack bonds were difficult.
You’ve already vented your anger; it’s enough. We’re siblings, family; we shouldn’t be so tense.”
Family?”
The irony stung. My wolf snarled.
You mean I can’t do this because we’re siblings?”
My voice was laced with bitter sarcasm.
I retrieved my communicator, playing a recording of the alpha’s threats.
The air crackled with the intensity of the sound.
[Listen, my brother knows I’m missing. He’ll come looking for me soon!]
[Your brother? Ha… “Little she–wolf, you don’t get it, do you? It’s your fifth brother who sent us. You reported Luna Carter, and he’s pissed. He wants us to teach you a lesson!]
[You better behave, withdraw your false accusation against Luna Carter to the Pack Council, and we’ll let you go. Otherwise, who knows what we’ll do. Your brother said, whatever it takes to make you withdraw it is fine.]
Silence fell, heavy and suffocating. Jared’s face paled; his lips trembled; he was speechless. His wolf’s scent shifted from concern to shame and fear.
I looked at him coldly.“Still want to persuade me?”
He lowered his head; shame was evident in his posture. He had no right! Alexander had delivered me to those betas for Emily, allowing them to do whatever they wanted! My wolf bristled with contempt.
his lips were pressed together; his aura was chilling.
Grayson’s eyes were like chips of ice; hi
His wolf’s power filled the den.
My voice was flat.“And by the way, when I said my brother would come for me, I wasn’t talking about you.” My words were like a poisoned
arrow.
This was a blow to his pride; he stumbled back, his face even grimmer.
His wolf’s pain was raw.
Grayson’s expression softened slightly; he took my hand, his voice low and magnetic.“Let’s go home; leave this to them.”
His wolf’s protective nature shone through.
I nodded obediently, letting him lead me away.
Back at Smith’s den, after showering and changing, I was about to go downstairs when I saw Grayson sitting on the furs. He was leaning back casually, legs crossed, a calming herb burning nearby, its scent filling the air, the faint glow illuminating his sharp features; he looked at me intently.
His wolf was relaxed, but the intensity in his gaze was unnerving.
My heart skipped a beat. I took a step back–maybe I wasn’t that hungry after all.
But Grayson stood up, closing the distance in a few strides, his presence overwhelming. Every step he took, my nerves ratcheted up. My wolf felt the shift in his energy, and a thrill, unexpected yet undeniable, coursed through me.
