Chapter 191
They left the ward. Emily, tears in her eyes, bit her lip, her voice choked. “I’m sorry, Andrew. It’s my fault, I caused trouble and made you and Caleb argue.”
Her she–wolf whimpered, overwhelmed by guilt.
Her eyelashes were wet; her voice soft.“Caleb is sick; Andrew, don’t be angry because of me. It’s my fault; Isabella is angry because of me, it c understandable.”
Her she–wolf cowered, seeking comfort.
She wiped her tears; her voice softer.“Maybe… I should leave the Miller pack…”
“Don’t say that!” Andrew ruffled her hair, his eyes indulgent.
His wolf offered silent reassurance.“You’re my sister; no one can make you leave.”
A subtle smile touched Emily’s lips; triumph flashed in her eyes. Her she–wolf felt a surge.
of power.
She lowered her head, her voice soft.“But staying here will damage the pack’s reputation.”
Andrew frowned, displeasure evident. His wolf’s scent shifted, carrying his annoyance.“I’ve looked into it. This has nothing to do with you. Isabella is trying to smear you; I’ll handle it.”
“Thank you, Andrew.” Gratitude filled her voice; triumph flickered in her eyes.
Her she–wolf felt a rush of relief.
Jared emerged from the ward; seeing Emily’s self–blame, he felt sympathy. He comforted her.“Emily, it’s not your fault; don’t blame yourself His wolf offered gentle reassurance.
Andrew’s schedule was packed after returning. He handed a file to someone behind him, instinctively calling out, “Isabella, organize these financial reports.”
His wolf unconsciously sought Isabella’s efficiency.
Then he realized she wasn’t there. He turned–only Emily stood behind him.
Resentment filled Emily’s heart; why couldn’t she escape Isabella’s shadow?
Her she–wolf growled, simmering with jealousy.
She suppressed her jealousy, smiling obediently, taking the file.“Andrew, I’ll do it. I might not be as capable as Isabella, but I’ll try my best.” Her she–wolf tried to present a calm facade.
Andrew smiled approvingly.“Why would you compare yourself to that she–wolf? She only shows off; you’re much better; you’re thoughtf His wolf found Emily’s obedience pleasing.
Emily was pleased but maintained her obedient smile.“Thank you, Andrew. I’ll do my best.”
Her she–wolf savored her victory.
Andrew returned to his study, opened his laptop, and video–called his assistant.
The assistant, his expression serious, reported on the pack’s situation.
“Mr. Miller, due to the recent turmoil, the Miller pack’s resources dropped 8 points, now trailing the Smith pack by a wide margin.” Andrew’s face darkened; his brows furrowed.
His wolf’s alpha dominance was threatened.
The assistant continued. “And we lost that territory; Smith’s bid was one percent lower.”
His wolf snarled, frustrated.
