Chapter270.
My mouth gaped slightly at Alpha Sterling’s bluntness.
The dazed look on my face must have been endearing.
Alpha Grayson chuckled, his laughter making my cheeks flush. My wolf felt a thrill of something new.
Alpha Sterling… he just likes to joke around. Don’t take it to heart,” I mumbled, looking down. Our relationship had always been sibling–like.
He chuckled again, stepping closer, gently smoothing my scarf. His touch was gentle, laced with barely perceptible affection.
My wolf felt a surge of warmth.
“Yeah, I know,” he murmured, lowering his voice.“And I don’t mind.”
I looked up, startled. What didn’t he mind?
Others joking about us, or…something more? My heart pounded.
Alpha Grayson had always wanted a younger sister; he saw me as just that. Alpha Sterling misunderstood; Alpha Grayson wouldn’t take offense.
He glanced at me, my blush fading, and opened the car door.
The warmth inside the car chased away the chill.
“Alpha Grayson, why are you here?”
He started the engine.“It’s your first day; I wasn’t feeling reassured, so I came to check on you. How’s it going?”
Warmth flooded me.“Pretty smooth.”
Compared to being thrust into Fire’s research department at sixteen by Alpha Mason, this was a breeze. I was more mature, and I had Alpha Grayson’s support. His guard wolf had dealt with the arrogant Levi, a force not tied to the Silvermoon Pack.
Thinking back to sixteen, my expression turned cold.
I’d been a pup then, thrown into an unfamiliar environment.
Fire, with the Silvermoon Pack’s investment, employed top–tier personnel–doctoral graduates.
And I was a high school student.
I remembered their looks
like I was an arrogant princess.
They weren’t cruel, but no one took me seriously. It was understandable; they were good wolves. I never blamed them. Yet, the negativity nearly drowned me. When Alpha Mason finally visited, I mentioned it..
He dismissed it, saying they were all great, that I should be more resilient.
They were good. Later, when I was abandoned by my brothers, they were the only ones who offered warmth.
But they were adults, and I was a pup, belittled and questioned.
Furthermore, I’d been forcibly placed there by Alpha Mason; in their eyes, a spoiled pup inflating her resume.
Their resentment was natural. But Alpha Mason didn’t speak up for me. Not even to mention my experience in pharmaceutical R&D since I was thirteen.
