Chapter272.
Dinner with Grayson was warm and harmonious, a rare peace in the Silvermoon Pack’s usually turbulent atmosphere. But back at the Miller den, it was a storm brewing. Mason returned to the pack, but found it désolate.
Emily was confined to the healers‘ den after the recent events; Andrew was dealing with the aftermath of Grayson’s recka branty on my head; Caleb lay unconscious, his injuries a testament to his protection of me; Jared, hurt and angered by misunderstandings, had left the family den; and Alexander, exiled because of my presence, was far away in the Whispering Pines territory.
I had truly turned their world upside down.
My wolf snarled at the memory, her claws scraping against my ribs.
This guilt gnawed at me, a constant ache I couldn’t escape.
Filled with a growing unease, Mason headed to the healers‘ den.
As he pushed open the heavy oak door, his eyes fell on Emily.
She sat huddled on her bed, a small, fragile she–wolf, her gaze lost in the distance. Her usually vibrant fur was dull, her body thin and
weak.
The sight of her pained me.
She was a shadow of her former self.
The once lively, playful she–wolf now seemed withered and close to collapse. The healer’s robe hung loosely on her slender frame. Mason felt a wrenching pain in his chest. He rushed to her side and pulled her into a comforting embrace.
“Emily, I’m late returning.”
Emily flinched, then clung to Mason’s fur as if it were a lifeline, her whimpers echoing through the den.
“Mason, why did you take so long? I was so scared!” she cried, her voice choked with tears.“Mason, you don’t know how many want me dead! I… I really didn’t mean to hurt anyone… especially my own brother…”
Mason soothed her, his hand stroking her back gently.
“Andrew overexerted himself on my behalf, neglecting his own well–being… Caleb was injured protecting me, hurt because of Isabella… it’s my fault… Jared left due to misunderstandings… and Alexander was forced into exile… Everything that’s happened is my fault; if it weren’t for me…”
Her sobs wracked her small body, silencing her words. Finally, she cried out in despair, “It’s all my fault! If I didn’t exist, everything would be fine!”
My heart ached for her.
My wolf whimpered, empathy flooding me. It felt like someone was squeezing my heart, a painful pressure in my chest.
Mason held her tighter.
“How can it be your fault?! It’s clearly Isabella’s fault!
All this–none of it would have happened if it weren’t for her!”
Emily lifted her tear–stained face.

“But…”
“There’s no but!” Mason cupped her face, gently cleaning her tears. “You silly shewolf, how can this be your fadt? Your borer ud Isabella; we took you in to repay that ungrateful Isabella. What did you do wrong?
His gaze hardened. “If anyone is to blame, it’s that ungrateful Isabella! If she had any sense, she wouldn’t have thepen our garb S chaos!”
Each word was sharp and precise.
My wolf’s anger matched his.
Emily’s lips trembled, a weak attempt at a smile.
To Mason, it was a fragile flower, desperately trying to bloom in the harsh wind
“Mason…” Emily looked up, her eyes glistening. “Don’t blame Isabella. It’s because of my a alone that I stole, she has every right to hate me…”

Mason’s embrace tightened.“What nonsense are you talking about! The one who should leave the Sibermoon Pack is labella
“I don’t want to see you two siblings turn against each other… I…” she sniffled, trying again for a smile Masco, I just can’t bear so leave you!”
She buried her face in his fur again.
Mason’s heart ached, filled with a profound understanding of Emily’s self–sacrificing nature.
He knew she always put others first, always willing to bear the burden of others pain.
