Chapter322.
He waved his hand.
“Move aside, Emily has been standing out here long enough.”
The guards didn’t move.“We weren’t hired by Luna Miller.”
My wolf snarled, sensing the tension.
This wasn’t just a human security detail; these were Silvermoon Pack enforcers, their loyalty bought and sold with silver.

Mason, with a self–satisfied look, said, “Don’t pretend. I’m in a good mood and might forgive Isabella, but if you anger me now, the terms for forgiveness won’t be so simple!”
His wolf was puffed up, chest out, attempting an Alpha display despite being clearly outmatched.
The guards looked at him like he was a particularly dimwitted pup.
Even my wolf rolled her eyes.
Emily, silent, hid behind Mason, her scent
–
a faint, anxious musk
barely registering.
“What are you waiting for?! Hurry up and let her through, or I’ll make sure Isabella can never step paw in the Miller family territory again!” His words lacked the usual Alpha authority, brittle and hollow.
“We weren’t hired by Luna Miller; we were hired by Alpha Jared,” the bodyguard said, exasperated by Mason’s endless demands.
Their scent was clearly one of annoyance.
Mason’s face turned pale, his expression freezing cold!
His wolf’s arrogance deflated like a punctured lung. The words he had just hurled felt like slaps across his own face! After a moment of stammering, he finally managed to say, “Why didn’t you say so earlier?”
The bodyguard glanced strangely at Emily.
“Long ago, Alpha Jared forbade Luna Carter from visiting Alpha Miller; she knows this, didn’t she tell you?”
The subtle shift in the guard’s posture, a slight tightening of muscles, revealed his pack loyalty to Jared over Mason.
Mason’s face flushed even redder, shock and embarrassment flooding his features as he looked at Emily, his eyes filled with reproach. His wolf whimpered, exposed and humiliated.
Emily bit her lip, hating the way Mason looked at her; how could he blame her? It wasn’t her fault he said those embarrassing things! Thinking about the new apothecary relying on Mason, she murmured, “I’m sorry, Mason; they didn’t let me in before.
I thought we could go in together. I didn’t expect Jared to be so wary of me…” Her voice trembled, a carefully crafted performance,
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes, and she looked like she was about to cry from the injustice.
Her wolf, however, felt a flicker of genuine hurt.
The scent of her tears, mixed with her carefully controlled fear pheromones, was a potent cocktail.
“What’s Jared doing?!” Mason roared, venting his anger on Jared. He thought Jared was being unreasonable. “Emily is family; how can he treat her this way?!” His wolf was lashing out, desperate to regain some semblance of control.
Emily pulled on Mason’s sleeve, appearing appropriately aggrieved and understanding.
“Mason, it’s okay. Jared might have some misunderstandings; he’s still angry. I’ll wait until he calms down.” Her wolf chuckled darkly; the manipulation was blatant, yet Mason seemed oblivious.
He was not, after all, the sharpest tool in the shed.
