Chapter411.
Emily waited until the pup opened the door, then entered.
The interior was a poor, dilapidated mud den.
Dust settled on her fur, but she hesitated, not rushing in.
Instead, she directed her crew to set up the live stream outside, preparing to broadcast.
Suddenly, the pup’s voice, timid and hushed, cut through the air.
“Grandma,” she whispered, a stark contrast to her earlier spirited dance.
Then the old she–wolf, her voice thick with dialect, began to scold her.
“Who told you to bring these strangers here! Get them out!”
The pup clung to her.
“Grandma, they’re kind; they want to help me.”
The old she–wolf pointed a claw at the pup’s forehead.
“Help?
Pups shouldn’t concern themselves with such things!”
“You’re just like your heartless mother!”
Seeing the escalating conflict, Emily quickly adopted a sweet, honeyed tone.
“Elder, please don’t misunderstand–we mean no harm.” She wasn’t genuinely concerned about the pup; she just needed to keep the live stream going.
If the elder began berating the pup, it would damage her carefully constructed image.
Glancing at the viewer count, she swallowed her discomfort and entered the mud den.
Emily stepped inside, saying, “Your granddaughter is talented; I wish to sponsor her, send her to a major city, and secure her a top–notch.
instructor.
She could become a magnificent dancer!”
She emphasized “sponsor,” anticipating the elder’s grateful reaction.
However, when the word “sponsorship” registered with the old she–wolf, the grateful expression Emily craved didn’t appear.
There was no immediate chorus of “thank yous.”
But her eyes suddenly lit up, flashing with shrewd calculation.
Ignoring Emily’s words, she turned and walked towards the creaking wooden door behind her.
Her thin hand reached behind the door and pulled out a slight figure.
It was a pup, about seven or eight years
old.
Slightly shorter than the pup who had just danced.
The old she–wolf held him back, preventing him from hiding.
One paw firmly grasped his arm, while the other pushed him forward, directly in front of Emily.

She smiled, addressing Emily:

“If you wish to sponsor, sponsor him! He’s my grandson, the heir! He’s eight and hasn’t begun his schooling! His mother left when he was born.”
My she–wolf chuckled; a low, rumbling sound of amusement.
And Emily’s expression darkened.
