Chapter466.
My soft ‘yes‘ was like a needle, popping the tension in the room.
Suddenly, the place went dead silent.
The color drained from Julia’s face, leaving her as pale as a sheet.
She stared at me, her chest heaving, her eyes a mixture of disbelief, humiliation, and ultimately, pure hatred.
She’d spent a fortune, pulled every string she could, thinking she had this in the bag.
It turned out, she was just a fool walking right into a trap–my trap, no less! And the mastermind behind it was me, someone she’d always looked down on!
“You…” Julia’s lips trembled so hard she couldn’t even get a word out.
Her wolf snarled, a low, guttural sound barely audible above the stunned silence.
I didn’t even bother to lift my eyelids.
She was nothing more than a bothersome pebble in my path.
This utter disregard stung her more than any insult.
‘Isabella! You’re going to regret this!” she hissed, her voice sharp, and shrill.
She
spun around, heels clacking furiously as she stormed out of the hall without looking back.
Watching her leave, Chloe’s face didn’t change a bit.
She turned to me and held out her paw.
‘Let’s start over.
I’m Chloe.”
I shook her paw briefly.
‘I’m Isabella.”
Chloe smiled, a genuine, relieved smile.
‘Actually, even without the villa incident, I wouldn’t have partnered with Julia.
She’s too unpredictable.
Working with her is just too risky.
But
you, Miss Miller,” she looked at me, I prefer dealing with she wolves who know what they’re doing
Mr. Smith is lucky to have you.”
We exchanged a knowing glance and smiled.

Some things didn’t need to be explicitly stated.
The deal was sealed.
The new energy project was mine.
After a few more words with Chloe, I got ready to leave.
I’d barely taken a few steps when someone blocked my way.

A tall he–wolf in a black suit stood in front of me, broad shoulders, long legs, and a face so striking it could rival Grayson’s.
I racked my brain, but I didn’t recognize him at all.
“Miss Miller,” he spoke first, his voice low and smooth, with a hint of a friendly smile.
“I overheard your conversation with Miss Riley.” He leaned slightly forward, creating a subtle pressure.
“How about letting me take over that project?”
I raised an eyebrow.
“If you’re interested, you can negotiate with the Riley Clan.
Fair competition.”
He chuckled softly and shook his head.
‘Miss Miller, you misunderstand.
I’m not trying to steal it, I just want a piece of the action.
You sign the contract with the Riley Clan, subcontract the project to me.
You take the lion’s share of the profits, I’ll settle for 30%.”
My gaze turned cold.
‘Smith Clan doesn’t outsource projects.” This would damage our reputation; I’d never do that.
He didn’t look surprised, like he knew I’d say that.
He just gave me a long, complicated look.
‘Miss Miller, you’ll need me.”
With that, he stepped aside and let me pass.
I didn’t say another word, just lifted my dress and walked past him.
As we brushed by each other, I caught a faint, familiar scent of fir wood.
I couldn’t explain it, but this stranger felt oddly familiar.
Still, I was sure I’d never met him before.
