Chapter 502

Mars

The moment she heard the delivery was for Miss Grant,Lola’s frown melted away. She obviously assumed it was for her. Nyx, my wolf, gave a sharp, mocking yip in the back of my mind, sensing the ridiculous vanity radiating off the

younger shewolf.

She practically darted forward, Is it a surprise from Mom and Dad for me?

She hurried to the doorway, craning her neck to peer outside into the Grant Clan territory.

In the courtyard, a long armored packtransport was parked, and several workers in matching clan livery were carefully unloading items.

The first thing they brought out was a massive wooden crate. From its size and shape, I could tell it held a crystal chandelier intended for a highranking Alpha’s den. Just looking at the box, I could already imagine the opulence inside, shimmering like moonlight on a frozen lake.

Following that were boxes plastered with elite artisan sigilshighrank furs, garments, and several framed ancestral paintings, professionally mounted.

I watched as Lola’s eyes glazed over, fixed on the unfolding scene, her breath catching in her throat. Her scent turned cloyingly sweet with greed, a pheromone spike that made my wolf snarl in disgust.

This was everything she’d ever dreamed of, things she’d coveted for so long, and I could practically feel her desperate longing radiating off her like heat from a summer forest fire.

She cleared her throat, squaring her shoulders and trying to project the air of a genuine Grant family heiress as she addressed the workers.

Be careful with those, don’t scratch or ding anything.

Take all of these up to my room on the second floor.

But the suited man, the one in chargea Beta with a sharp, disciplined auraonly offered her a polite glance and didn’t move an inch.

The workers behind him, too, froze, their hands still, standing exactly where they were, waiting for a command from a true Alpha bloodline. Lola’s spoiled brat persona resurfaced in an instant, her brow furrowing in a display of pure indignation.

What are you staring at? Get moving!

A flickersomething unreadable, almost knowingcrossed the man’s eyes behind his spectacles. He clearly sensed the discrepancy between her demand and her power.

He bowed subtly, his voice polite but with a distinct, unsettling distance.

Excuse me, but we’re here for Miss Grant. May I ask who you are?

The smug expression on Lola’s face instantly froze, shattered.

A wave of pure indignation washed over her features, as if her mind was screaming, But I’m Miss Grant!

Tam Miss Grant! Lola insisted, her voice rising sharply, as if sheer volume could somehow validate her identity within the pack hierarchy.

Just then, I finally emerged from the living room, taking my sweet time. Nyx paced within me, her claws clicking against the floor of my subconscious enjoying the sight of the interloper’s confusion.

I didn’t even spare Lola a glance. Instead, I walked straight up to the man, took the delivery slip and pen from his hand, and signed my nameIsabella

Grant.

Once done, I handed the slip back.

From now on, she’s also Miss Grantthe second Miss Grant of the Grant family,I stated, my tone even, as it simply mentioning a minor detail Next time you deliver something, it’s best to confirm which Miss Grant it’s for, to avoid any confusion

My words weren’t loud, but they landed like a stinging slap across Lola’s face

I watched her face flush scarlet, then drain white, burning with mortification. Her wolf must have been cowering in shame at the public rebuke,

But I had already turned my back on her, addressing the workers. “Please, if you could take these items up to the third floor.

At my instruction, the workers immediately sprang into action, lifting the boxes and heading upstairs.

Lola could only watch, her gaze locked on each itemthe very things I knew she’d always wantedas they were carried right past her, destined for my room on the third floor.

My fingers curled into fists, my nails digging deep into my palms, nearly drawing blood.

Every single coin of that was Grant family wealthresources that should have been mine by birthright!

Lola’s eyes burned with a possessiveness so fierce, it was clear she thought every bit of wealth spent was rightfully hers.

Carson, though, just watched it all unfold, a faint, contented smile playing on his lips. As the Alpha of the house, there wasn’t a single flicker of regret or hesitation in his gaze, not an ounce of remorse for the resources he was so readily spending on me.

My uncle walked over to the man, preparing to settle the account.

Give me the bill,he said.

The man replied deferentially.

The man respectfully informed Carson, Mr. Grant, these are all gifts from Grayson for me. They’ve already been paid for.

Grayson. I knew that name would give Carson pause.

He’d need a moment to process it, then it would all click for him through the pack’s telepathic understanding.

I saw a flicker in his eyes, a dawning understanding that Grayson’s feelings for me were likely more than just a typical big brother’s affection for his little sister. It was the scent of a potential mateclaim, subtle but present.

A knowing, almost satisfied smile played on his lips, and he didn’t press the issue of paying again.

Carson wouldn’t dare interfere with anyone trying to pursue his nieceespecially when that niece was me, the rightful Luna of my future circle. Downstairs, I could practically feel Lola’s gaze fixed on them. She must have seen Carson speaking with the man and, true to form, immediately jumped to the conclusion that he was paying for my gifts out of the pack treasury.

I could just picture her, seething with rage, fingernails digging crescents into her palms, clutching at her shirt, her eyes burning red as she ran off to whine to Wendy.

Mom, do you see this? All of that stuff put together, it has to be worth tens of millions of credits, at least! How can Dad be so biased?!

Just then, Carson walked back, catching every single word.

His face instantly darkened, his Alpha aura flared, making the air in the room heavy and hard to breathe.

His expression made it clear he was done with his stepdaughter, unwilling to deal with her petty puplike tantrums anymore.

He simply looked at Wendy, disappointment etched on his features.

You think so too?

Wendy pressed her lips together, and I could tell she was uncomfortable. Her wolf was likely pacing nervously under Carson’s dominant gaze. Theard Aunt Wendy’s voice, sharp and accusatory. “You really do treat your niece so much better than Lola, she pressed, her tone laced with a familiar whine. The favoritism is just too obvious.

Carson let out a short, humorless laugh that sent a shiver down my spine. It wasn’t a laugh of amusement, but of pure, simmering Alpha rage Favoritism?he practically snarled, his voice rising, thick with a fury he was barely containing Nyx stirred, recognising the growl of a true leader Didn’t Lola steal Isabella’s room first? Now, all these extra things, they’re just compensation. Is that really too much? Besides.

He hadn’t even finished his sentence before Wendy cut him off, her voice laced with resentment.

Compensation?Wendy scoffed, her voice dripping with indignation All these new things you got for Isabella are so much more hasursus than anything that was in her old room! It’s completely outrageous!

I watched Carson’s gaze settle on Wendy, heavy with disappointment. It was agonizingly clear to me that they couldn’t even begin to communicate through the bond anymore.

No, I want to ask, who’s truly out of line here? You knew perfectly well that was the room I’d set aside for Isabella, yet you just went ahead and took it

Isn’t that out of line?

Isabella, being so understanding, didn’t want to put me in a tough spot and willingly stepped aside, but you treated that as a given. Isn’t that out of

line?

Now Isabella has a better room, and you’re green with envy, feeling it’s unfair. Isn’t that also out of line?

His three questions, one after another, hit Wendy like thunder. I watched as the color drained from her face, leaving her utterly speechless.

I watched as Lola tugged hard at Wendy’s sleeve. Her voice was a tearchoked whisper, yet it carried clearly, making sure everyone in the room codd hear her through their heightened wolf hearing.

Mom, maybemaybe we should just give the room back to Sis,she choked out. II can stay anywhere.

Her gaze, I noticed, immediately darted to my newly furnished room. It was her classic move, playing the martyr, retreating only to advance in the pack hierarchy.

And just like that, her performance of selfsacrifice instantly reignited Wendy’s fierce maternal love.

Wendy instantly pulled Lola closer, her arms tightening around her like a shield, then turned her defiant gaze on Carson.

Okay, if that’s what Lola wants,Wendy said, her voice laced with a fauxresignation that made my stomach churn, then fine, let’s just give Isabella her old room back.

Carson let out a cold, scoffing laugh, a sound that hit the air like a slap. He looked at Wendy as if she’d just told him the biggest joke in the world. The sound was thick with undisguised contempt, sharp and cutting.

His voice was heavy with dangerous sarcasm. So you want to give Isabella back her old room, and she’s supposed to just give up the far superior new

locked onto the mother and daughter, utterly frigid, stripping away any lingering warmth from the room.

Dream on,he scoffed, his tone dripping with contempt.

Wendy and Lily’s faces instantly fell, their expressions twisting into something ugly to behold.

Especially Wendy, who looked utterly mortified, as if she was choking on the words caught in her throat.

could almost see the realization hit Wendy: Carson had never spoken to her like that in their two decades of blood bond. Not once. And now, because f me, she was suddenly facing his Alpha wrath.

ust as I thought Wendy was about to erupt, Lily clamped onto her arm, her eyes wide and pleading. I watched as the anger visibly drained from Wendy’s face, her rage deflating under Lily’s desperate grip,

Isabella will be a Miller too, soon enough. She’s the older sister. What’s wrong with an older sister giving way to The spoke with such conviction, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, a universal truth of the wolfkin that older sisters always deferred to heir younger ones.

knew the unspoken plea beneath her words: her precious Lily, who’d lost her parents so young and now considered Wendy her mother, deserved only he absolute best the pack could provide.

That familiar rhetoric, which had always worked like a charm with the Millers, utterly failed to sway Carson. He remained unmoved, his stance as firm is the ancient mountains.

knew Carson wouldn’t stand for it. Emily had already put me through enough hell, making me endure so much pain. There was no way he’d let some nanufactured sisterin the Grant family pile on more heartache while I was under his protection.
