The Great Pack Auction.
Menu
I sat quietly in the grand auction hall, my mind constantly racing, searching for a way to treat the Wither–Blood Blight–the dreaded ALS of our kind. Nyx, my
wolf, was pacing in the back of my mind, her ears pinned back in a state of high alert, sensing my internal distress.
The noisy buzz of the hall, filled with the scents of various Alphas and Betas from across the territories, seemed to have nothing to do with me.
On the stage, the exhibits–ancient relics and powerful talismans–were already being unveiled. The presenter’s voice boomed with impassioned energy
as they introduced each one through the telepathic Howlnet speakers, and below, a flurry of hands shot up, paddles raised high.
In the distance, I saw Lola clinging to Wendy’s arm, her eyes sparkling as she stared at the stage, excitement radiating unmistakably from her. Her scent was a cloying mix of ambition and juvenile greed.
‘Mom, look at that necklace! It’s so pretty!”
Her finger then shot to another blue–and–white porcelain vase, her voice practically buzzing with excitement.
And that vase, Mom,” she gushed. “Don’t you think it looks so much like the one in Isabella’s den?”
Wendy’s voice was indulgent, doting. “If you like it, we’ll get it for our territory.”
watched as Lola practically bounced in her seat, pointing out pieces, her mother agreeing readily. It was painfully obvious their real goal wasn’t the art tself, but the thrill of outdoing me in the eyes of the pack, no matter the cost in credits.
It wasn’t long before they successfully bid on both of those items.
With two impressive pieces now theirs, Lola’s mood seemed to lighten, a satisfied, predatory smile blooming on her face.
The next lot was a collection of medicinal herbs, and I noticed their interest immediately dwindle.
knew Lola had no knowledge of wolf–botany or the healing of the Blood–Core, and to her, that dusty, unassuming–looking herb probably seemed vorth only a few thousand credits.
Can something like that really be auctioned off at a Great Gathering?”
Honestly, a twinge of disappointment hit me. Were they really auctioning off just anything these days? It made me wonder if the caliber of this Grandeur Auction was truly so mediocre.
ola shot a suspicious glance at Wendy. I could almost read the accusation in her eyes: Was Wendy worried Lola herself would spend too much from he Grant treasury, so she’d brought her to some cheap, knock–off auction just to fool her?
ola picked up her Howlnet–tablet, immediately looking up the background and strength of Grandeur Auctions.
ust then, someone in front of me raised their paddle, bidding twenty million credits.
When the auctioneer announced that staggering sum, Lola visibly stiffened, her eyes practically popping out. I watched as she whipped her head ideways, clearly shocked that “weeds‘ could cost so much.
fer gaze swept the VIP section, then locked onto me, and I saw recognition–and something colder, a flicker of she–wolf spite–flash in her eyes
Someone countered my bid, but I raised my paddle again, not hesitating for a second. My wolf, Nyx, growled low; these herbs were essential for Grayson’s survival.
Mom, look, isn’t that Isabella? Why is she at a place like this, bidding on some useless herbs? Twenty million credits for one bid? How much allowance loes the Alpha even give her?”
I could practically feel the disdain dripping from Lola’s voice.
Wendy’s eyes flicked over, and her face went completely cold. Ten million credits, just like that. I could practically feel her resentment, convliced Carson was far too generous with his niece’s pack–fund access.
Once I’d secured the herb, it was promptly removed by the pack–porters.
Soon, the second medicinal item was wheeled onto the stage.
It was an ancient purple–blood mushroom, glowing with a soft, lustrous sheen. Rumor had it, it could bring a dying wolf back to life and mend even

he most shattered Blood–Core. The starting bid alone was a staggering eight million credits.
The moment the host announced the price, I didn’t hesitate, raising my paddle instantly.
Ten million credits.”
ended up securing four different herbs, one after another, and I felt this intense urge to just buy out the entire collection of medicinal ingredients for Grayson’s treatment.
ola’s eyes darted, and a familiar chill ran down my spine. I could almost see the malicious, purely spiteful scheme brewing behind her calculating gaze. Her wolf was baring its teeth in a game of financial dominance.
Her intention was clear as day: if I wanted that herb, she was going to “help” me secure it, for a price that would make my head spin.
The Millennium Snow Lotus, born from the frigid peaks of the Northern Territory, holds the miraculous power to purify the mind, soothe the spirit, nd revitalize one’s core energy. Starting bid: fifteen million credits!”
But before I could even open my mouth to bid, she abruptly cut in:
Twenty million!”
The moment the number left her lips, her challenging gaze locked onto mine, her pheromones flaring with a bratty, Beta–level aggression.
My previous bid had just settled, but with that sudden, jarring interruption, every single eye in the room instantly swung our way.
didn’t even lift my eyelids. I hadn’t recognized Lola’s voice initially, and it hadn’t occurred to me that she’d be here to cause trouble, so I just casually alled out a bid.
Thirty million.”
The number slipped from my lips, light and airy, as if I wasn’t talking about millions but just a random, insignificant figure.
was so focused on the lotus, I missed the source, but Grayson, sitting beside me like a mountain of Alpha calm, didn’t. He shot a quick glance behind im before turning back to me. A faint, almost imperceptible curve touched his lips, and his amber eyes, when they met mine, held a familiar, warm ndulgence.
ola scoffed, a silent challenge in her eyes that screamed, You think you can get away with anything just because Carson spoils you, don’t you, Isabella‘ fer smug smirk spelled out her plan: she was dying to see if Alpha Carson would get angry if I ended up blowing a fortune on a useless herb.
ola shot a quick glance at Wendy beside her, a cold, calculating sneer twisting her lips. She must think she’s so clever. Carson might be indifferent, but Wendy? Oh, she’s banking on Wendy’s fury to cause a rift in the pack.
ola’s voice cut through the air again. Forty million!”
The moment her bid rang out, Wendy swiveled her head toward her, a tell–tale crease already forming between her brows
Lola, what are you doing, bidding so recklessly?”
Lola stuck out her tongue, feigning an innocence that didn’t fool anyone. “I just saw Isabella bidding and couldn’t help myself,” she drawled. I also wanted to see how much power Dad has really given her.”
I watched Lola, her eyes narrowed with a cautious, almost childish jealousy, testing the boundaries of the pack hierarchy.
Wendy showed no sign of scolding her. Instead, she shook her head indulgently. Oh, you… that’s all your dad’s credits. Don’t had so recklessly.
Lola nodded once, her eyes still fixed on me like a predator tracking a rabbit.
The rest of the items were various herbs, and Wendy seemed bored. She excused herself for a bit, heading to the restroom.
Then, my voice cut through the air, as cool and clear as always.
“Fifty million!”
Wendy heard my bid from the hallway, and I saw a slight frown deepen on her face.
She turned sharply, clearly agitated, as if she couldn’t wait to make a furious telepathic call to Carson
Seeing Wendy leave, Lola immediately called out another bid, her voice thick with barely contained excitement and malice
