Chapter 520
Wendy’s expression didn’t soften much even after his explanation, her pheromones still sharp and jagged with maternal resentment.
It was clear to me that what she truly hated was Evan’s knowing demeanor, the way his Alpha instincts always seemed to anticipate my needs and consider my feelings. My wolf preened under the attention, sensing the shift in the Pack’s internal hierarchy.
Mariu
It made her feel like the he–wolf she’d worked so hard to raise had completely turned his back on her, his loyalty irrevocably shifted away from his
mother’s den.
Picking up your cousin, the one you’ve never even bothered to meet, couldn’t you have brought Lola along? Let her get to know family too, what’s wrong with that?” Wendy’s voice remained razor–sharp, laced with a familiar accusatory tone that made the lower–ranking Omegas in the hall cringe. Lola, who was standing beside her, chose that moment to tug on Wendy’s sleeve. Her scent turned manufactured and sweet, like a trap, as she whispered, “Mom, please don’t blame Evan. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t cause you so much worry.”
ola’s pitiful, wronged expression only seemed to twist Wendy’s heart, fueling her rage against me.
See how considerate Lola is!” Wendy’s accusing glare swung back to Evan. “As her brother, can’t you be a little more considerate of your sister’s eelings? Tomorrow, you’re not going anywhere. You’ll take Lola to that new Sacred Artifact Exhibition in the Western Territory and spend some quality time with her.”
A flicker of discomfort crossed Evan’s face, his wolf pacing restlessly.
Mom, I have an important meeting at the Pack Council tomorrow, I can’t get away.”
Wendy’s face tightened, her Alpha–mate authority radiating even stronger than Evan’s slight discomfort. “I told you to take your sister out to clear her lead, and you’re just dragging your paws! Fine, then take Lola to the Pack Headquarters tomorrow, won’t you? She’s part of the Grant family now, fter all, and she’ll have to get involved in Pack business eventually. Let her get familiar with the environment ahead of time!”
saw the way Evan’s jaw subtly tightened, a flicker of resignation in his eyes. In our society, a mother’s command held weight until the blood–oath was hallenged. There was no escaping this one.
Fine,‘ he said, his voice flat, devoid of any real emotion. “I get it. I’ll take her to the Pack Headquarters tomorrow.”
Only then did Wendy’s expression finally soften, a satisfied smirk flickering across her face.
stood by, my gaze cast downward, the implications of her move already swirling in my mind. Wendy sending Lola to the Grant Pack Council wasn’t ome sudden whim; she definitely had an ulterior motive to plant her in the hierarchy.
Mulling over her intentions, I headed upstairs to my den.
A few minutes later, I walked over to the adjacent room, a bag clutched in my hand.
The next morning, Lola was up bright and early with the sunrise.
she’d specifically chosen one of the latest Chanel white silk tunics, which made her look almost too pure, too innocent–like a lunar maiden. Her no–makeup look was expertly applied, and she’d used a scent–suppressant to give her that effortlessly beautiful, untouched vibe.
watched her twirl a few times in front of the large mirror, meticulously checking every angle, from her hair down to her polished heels. Only when he seemed perfectly satisfied did she finally click–clack downstairs, radiating an almost artificial grace.
could sense her expectation through the shared link, a quiet certainty that Grayson would be waiting for her downstairs.
But the living room was starkly empty, save for an Omega maid diligently dusting the stone hearth.
Where’s Grayson? Is he still asleep?” Lola’s voice was a soft, almost imperceptible whine, the kind of gentle complaint a she–wolf might make about a nate still lingering in the furs.
The maid, ever respectful, replied, “Miss Lola, Master Grayson went next door quite early this morning. I heard the Alpha of the Miller Pack arrived, and Master Grayson went to greet him.”
The Alpha of the Miller Pack? I watched a flicker of confusion cross her features.
Grayson! Her eyes widened, the recognition hitting her hard, a silent gasp. My wolf laughed at her audacity.
Her breath caught, and for a split second, I swore I could see her heart stutter in her chest, a visible jolt.
I’d only seen Grayson a handful of times, always from a distance, but that Alpha, with his almost regal bearing and overwhelming pheromones, was impossible to forget.

I kept my true feelings for Grayson buried deep. No one, not even Wendy, knew.
Mann
Sure, Evan was the future heir of the Grant Pack, but in my eyes, he still fell short compared to Grayson. Grayson–he was the Alpha truly at the top of the hierarchy.
If I could be his woman–Grayson’s Luna–I wouldn’t just be the young lady of the Grant Pack. I’d be the Paramount Luna of all the territories! The moment that thought took hold, it began to grow inside me like a wild, invasive wolfsbane vine, twisting and tightening its grip around everything else.
I immediately shoved aside all thoughts of going to the Council office.
“Got it, I managed to say, feigning a calm I didn’t feel, then turned and headed for the door.
I had to go next door, to see if I could secure some alone time with Grayson.
Even if it isn’t the ideal outcome, I’d still leap at the chance to spend more time with an Alpha of his caliber.
The moment Evan and I stepped into the main living room, an unspoken tension hit us, thick and suffocating. It was too much; I couldn’t breathe in that heavy Alpha atmosphere. So, instead of lingering, I gravitated towards the glass doors, stepping out onto the expansive patio that overlooked the sprawling moon–gardens. That’s when I spotted Lola. She was practically sprinting across the sprawling garden, making a beeline for Miles’s villa. I watched her pause just before the entrance, smoothing down the skirt of her tunic with a calculated gesture. I saw her take a deep, deliberate breath, and then, like a switch, that sickeningly sweet, perfectly innocent scent I knew all too well plastered itself across her skin. Only then did she reach out and press the doorbell.
A moment later, the butler opened the door.
“Miss Lola,” he greeted, his voice carrying faintly to me.
I could just make out her saccharine–sweet voice, sickeningly soft even from this distance: “I’m here for Brother Yu and Isabella.” The artificial sweetness grated on my ears, making my wolf’s stomach twist with a snarl.
The butler, ever professional, simply stepped aside and ushered her in.
As she stepped into the living room, her gaze fell upon the figure who haunted her dreams.
Grayson was there, alone on the couch, a coffee cup in his hand. He exuded a lazy grace, yet an undeniable Alpha aura that screamed, “Stay away.”
No one else was in the living room; I wasn’t there, and neither was Evan.
I knew Lola’s heart was hammering, a frantic drum against her ribs.
This was her chance, and I knew she wouldn’t let it slip away.
She moved with a calculated lightness, inching closer to Grayson. When she spoke, her voice held just the right touch of manufactured surprise. “Grayson? What are you doing here all by yourself?”
Grayson’s eyelids fluttered open, his amber gaze sweeping over her dismissively. He said nothing, his wolf not even bothering to acknowledge her
presence
That single glance, I knew, was as sharp and cold as shards of ice. It must have sent a chill straight through Lola’s chest.
But I also knew Lola wasn’t the type to give up that easily.
She deliberately chose a seat not too far from Grayson, carefully arranging her face into an expression of feigned concern, laced with a hint of complaint.
“My sister, really. How could she just leave a guest like you here? And Yu.. so thoughtless”
As she spoke, I could picture her secretly flicking glances at Grayson, searching for any reaction from his wolf
“It’s a little stuffy in here. Why don’t I accompany you for a walk in the garden? The morning air is quite lovely for a run.”
She waited, her gaze fixed on Grayson, anticipating his reply.
Finally, Grayson moved. He set his coffee cup down on the stone table, the gentle clink of ceramic against the sauver barely breaking the silence
‘Don’t bother,‘ he said.
His voice was even icier than his initial glare, vibrating with Alpha command.

With that, he rose, walked to the window, and turned his back on her. It was a clear, unmistakable dismissal.
“Just stay away from me.”
His words hit her like a bucket of ice water. The sweet scent she’d plastered on her skin instantly froze.
She’d never been so mortified in her life.
In her mind, his eyes, his heart–they were only for me.
Why me? Why me?
An outcast like me, who had severed the Blood Bond with the Silvermoon family–who was I to have an Alpha like Grayson?
I could feel the burning jealousy ignite inside her through the air, a wild, untamed fire.
I knew she wasn’t going to let it go.
Meras
Don’t all he–wolves fall for that? Acting a little more delicate, a little more understanding, a little more forward–Grayson just hadn’t seen how good of a mate she truly was yet.
Lola drew a sharp breath, forcing down the fiery frustration that churned within her.
I watched her stand up and move behind Grayson. She didn’t sit back down, but slowly lowered herself into a squat.
It was a pose designed to make her look up at him like a submissive Omega, a clear bid for sympathy, making her appear incredibly pitiful.
Her voice, now thick with a feigned sob, sounded utterly wronged, as if she were the one who’d been mistreated.
“Mr. Miller,” she whimpered, “please don’t misunderstand… I don’t have any ulterior motives. I just saw you sitting here alone, and the way they treated you… I just wanted to keep you company.”
As she spoke, her hand slowly, deliberately, reached out.
I watched as her fingertips slowly, cautiously, reached out towards Grayson’s pant leg, nearing the edge of his territory.
Just a little more, and she would have touched him.
But Grayson suddenly jerked his body to the side, his muscles rippling under his clothes as his wolf snarled in his mind at the unwanted contact. Lola’s hand was left hanging in mid–air, stuck awkwardly, the air practically crackling with her mortification.
She looked up.
Grayson was staring down at her, and the detached indifference from before was completely gone. In its place was raw, undisguised disgust, his eyes flashing a predatory gold.
‘Get out!”
