Chapter 538
I watched Carson’s face, stunned rigid. It was clear he couldn’t process the words that had just come from his own mate, the she–wolf who shared his den and blood bond. The realization hit him like a physical blow to his Alpha pride.
“Wendy, you’re absolutely insane!” he practically roared, his voice vibrating with a low, lupine growl.
Wendy pressed her lips into a thin line, her voice dropping slightly, laced with a sickening false rationality that made my own wolf, Lyca, snarl in disgust. “We’re all pack–kin, after all. Isabella wants to be part of the Grant Pack, so she should be willing to consider what’s best for us…”
The sound of a thunderous bang startled me, rattling the silence of the den.
Carson had slammed his hand down on the stone table, the force of his Alpha strength making the entire surface jump and crack “That’s enough!” Carson’s eyes were red, glowing with a primal fury. “Isabella didn’t do anything wrong. Why should she have to pay for Lola’s mistakes? Enough excuses! Lola is a grown she–wolf; she needs to face the consequences of her own actions! Getting her to howl her apology and admit her wrongdoing to the Pack Council as soon as possible is the key to minimizing the negative impact. The sooner this is resolved, the better it will be for her. You deal with it!”
The moment he finished speaking, Carson turned on his heel and walked out, his scent of cedar and ozone lingering in the air like a
storm.
Wendy’s fists were clenched tight, her claws digging into her palms. Carson wouldn’t budge, but I could practically hear her thoughts through the pack–link, loud and clear: if he wouldn’t make me give in, she, my Luna–aunt, would come straight to me herself. As if I’d even have a choice under the ancient laws.
My link–stone rang almost instantly.
It hummed for ages before I finally picked up, my voice coming through cool and clear, my wolf pacing restlessly behind my ribs.
“What do
you
want?”
Wendy spoke, her voice what she probably considered soft, though it smelled of manipulation and wilted lilies. “You really want my approval to come back to the Grant Pack, don’t you? Just go out there and tell the Howlnet that song was a gift you gave Lola, a testament to your deep sisterly bond, and that’s why you let her register the soul–mark under your name. Do that, and I’ll agree to let
back into the Grant Pack,”
you
She must have been convinced I’d agree.
Otherwise, why would I have kept clinging to the title of the Grant Pack’s eldest daughter?
On the other end of the line, I let out a soft laugh, as if I’d just heard the most ridiculous joke told at a Moon Festival. My laugh was light, yet utterly cold, sending a shiver through the link.
“You want me to whitewash your impostor pup?” My voice turned frigid, the pheromones of my own Alpha blood rising. “What makes you think I’d agree to such an absurd demand? Just because you’re my aunt?”
I let out a sudden, humorless laugh. “First of all, you’re only my aunt because you’re my uncle’s mate. What if you weren’t?” Wendy’s voice was frigid now, her face, I imagined, hardening into a mask of Beta aggression. “What do you mean by that?”
“It means–don’t push me, because I wouldn’t mind seeing you replaced as my Luna–aunt. Your heart isn’t with my uncle or Evan
It’s always been with Lola and her father.”

Wendy’s face instantly drained of color. A sudden, stark pallor washed over her features, as if my words had struck a nerve in her core. It was dear what she was thinking: Did I know everything?
Then she shook her head, a desperate attempt to dismiss the thought, to regain her composure. No, it’s impossible, I could almost hear her inner wolf scream. How could a little pup like Isabella know anything about what happened twenty years ago?
Wendy took a steadying breath, her voice tight with forced calm. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Just because your uncle takes your side, does that mean I can’t take my niece’s side?”
I let out a cold scoff. “Think what you want, but I’m warning you, get rid of those ridiculous, self–important ideas of yours. What Lola is going through now? She brought it on herself. And you, you brought it on yourself. When Lola stole my sheet music and soul–notes, she should have thought about the consequences!”
I said, my voice dangerously slow and deliberate, “She won’t touch a violin again, not in this lifetime! Her wolf will never howl that melody again.”
With that, I severed the link.
Wendy clutched her link–stone, listening to the incessant dead tone. She was so furious, her eyes flashed a predatory amber; she wanted to smash the stone against the cave wall.
She was about to go confront me in person, but as she turned, she saw Carson standing right behind her, his Alpha presence looming! She gasped, startled, stumbled back a step, tripped, and fell onto the fur–covered sofa.
Carson’s voice, devoid of any warmth, cut through the air. “You actually dared to bother Isabella? Where do you get off?”
Wendy, still defiant, shot back, “Look at Lola! Look what they’re doing to her on the Howlnet! She’s practically dying! What’s wrong with pack–kin helping each other out?”
Carson completely ignored her outburst. His voice, still bone–chilling, continued, “If you’re so afraid of the cyberbullying embarrassing her, then she can go stay in a distant territory abroad for a while. I’ve already made the arrangements with the neutral packs. Lola’s leaving tomorrow.”
“What did you say?” Wendy’s voice shot through the room, sharp with disbelief. “You’re sending Lola away? I won’t allow it!” “You have no say in this!” Carson insisted, his Alpha command snapping like a whip.
Immediately, before she could even process what he’d said, Carson turned to the pack butler. “Go pack her bags,” he commanded, his voice sharp and final. “She has a flight out of the territory first thing tomorrow morning.”
The butler acknowledged his command with a curt nod, already turning towards the stairs.
“Don’t
you
dare!” Wendy roared, her shift beginning to prickle at her skin.
Carson looked at her coldly. “Isabella isn’t someone you can just walk all over. Besides, she has Grayson backing her up.”
Wendy reeled when she heard the name of the powerful Alpha.
“Go!” Carson commanded again.
“Don’t move!” Wendy commanded, her voice echoing the intensity of his own, but she lacked the Alpha authority to override him.
Carson’s face tightened, a dark storm brewing as he was about to issue a formal Pack warning.
Wendy’s face had gone rigid, stripped bare of all warmth. “I know,” she said, her voice tight. “I’ll tell her myself.”

Carson, lealulla.
They’d better be ready, She was Veeping score, and she would make us pay in blood.
The moment Lola heard the verdict of her exile, the crumpled, her sobs wearing through the air like a wounded pup.
She’d only just returned to the territory, barely had time to savor her role as the Grant Pack’s young miss, and now she was being exiled again.
Wendy’s arms tightened around her, a fierce grip that pulled her cover. “Lola, listen to me! You’ll go abroad first–I’ve already made all the arrangements there. We’re going to work this from the inside out and make the Grant Pack ours. We’ll make it the Garrett Pack! You won’t be just some Grant Pack princess. Mom’s going to make you the Garrett Pack’s princess!”
At those words, Lola stilled, I pictured it clearly: Lola, her head finally lifted, her gaze locked onto Wendy. “Mom, she’d asked, her voice tight with a strange mix of hope and desperation, is what you said true?
Wendy pressed a finger to Lola’s lips, listening intently for any sounds beyond the door, her ears twitching. After a tense moment, she finally whispered, “Listen to me. You need to go to the secondary territory first.”
Lola nodded, her silence heavy,
After Wendy saw Lola off on an overnight flight, she spent two days at the pack house like a ghost, utterly drained, her pheromones flat and grey, She didn’t cry or cause a scene, nor did she argue with Carson anymore. She just retreated into a profound silence.
But I wasn’t dropping the lawsuit at the Pack Council just because Lola had gone abroad. Naturally, Lola never showed up in court. She didn’t even bother to respond to the summons, losing the case by default. Even from outside the country, Lola couldn’t escape the backlash, The Howlnet gossip and criticism followed her across every border.
Wendy took it all in stride, or at least, that’s how it seemed. When I went back to the Grant Pack home to visit Carson and Grandpa, Wendy acted as if nothing had happened, though she remained cool and distant towards me, her scent masked and guarded.
I knew it, though. Beneath Wendy’s quiet demeanor, I sensed a powerful, dangerous undercurrent. I assigned more wolves to watch Wendy,
By the third afternoon, I knew Wendy couldn’t stay quiet forever. My instincts screamed that something was brewing, and I wasn’t wrong. My people alerted me when she walked into a private teahouse, a place so discreet it didn’t even have a sign, hidden in a scent–neutral zone,
I got the full report: She pushed the door open and headed straight for one of its most private corners.
Then, the last person I expected–or maybe the exact person I should have expected–walked in: Susan. Her eyes found Wendy, and a slow, chilling smile played on her red lips, brimming with a disturbing kind of satisfaction.
“Sister,” Susan purred, walking closer, her voice dripping with an intimacy that felt utterly false.
I could practically feel Wendy’s resentment simmering, a volatile undercurrent beneath her composed facade. She hated it, I knew, but she bit her tongue, playing the part.
Susan, completely unfazed by her attitude, pulled out a chair and sat down, pouring Wendy a cup of tea. Her voice was soft, almost seductive, as she spoken

“Men are useless, really. We can only ever rely on our own kind. Don’t worry, dear. Lola is already settled abroad, thanks to my son’s arrangements. No matter how capable Grayson is, his connections overseas simply can’t compare to the Miller family’s–the Silvermoon Pack has been building their empire there for years.”
At the mention of Lola, Wendy’s expression softened slightly, though her tone remained cool and distant.
“Hmm. How do you want me to cooperate?”
Susan, completely unfazed, flashed an ingratiating smile. “Then, my dear sister, I’ll need you to humble yourself, apologize to your
