Chapter 543

I peeled off my Ancient Sight–gear, blinking as the real world came back into focus. Inside the ritual–chamber of the Ignis Alchemists, the rune for “SUCCESS” glowed a brilliant, steady green.
Through the observation window, a thunderous applause erupted instantly. The experts and high–ranking Alphas, usually so distant and authoritative, were now red–faced with excitement, their inner wolves howling in approval like pups witnessing something extraordinary.
They’d just witnessed a miracle of soul–mending, a moment that would reshape the medical history of the pack–lands.
I pushed myself up, flexing my wrists. My sterile ritual–suit, still clinging to me like a second skin, made me feel sharp, my Alpha senses humming and ready for anything. I ignored the fervent stares from the observation room, walking straight out of the sanctum.
My assistant, Faye, was instantly there, handing me a bottle of lunar–infused water and a silk towel.
“Isabella, that was incredible! You worked another miracle!” Faye’s eyes were sparkling, her wolf practically wagging its tail with excitement. I could tell she wanted to nuzzle me in celebration, but held back, remembering we were still within the professional boundaries of the Alchemists‘ guild.
I took the water, twisted open the cap, and took a gulp to soothe my dry throat. “It’s not enough,” I said, my voice low.
To truly cure Grayson’s Silver–rot–that ancestral wasting curse–this kind of procedure, this level of success, it’s still not enough.
Faye just stared at me, completely speechless. I could practically hear her internal monologue, clear as a telepathic ping: Isabella, you’re impossibly hard on yourself! She probably thought I was insane to feel this wasn’t enough after a soul–mending like that. To her, I suppose, I just made it look like another routine Tuesday hunt.
“Oh, right, Isabella,” Faye said, as if remembering something crucial. “Logan Thundercrest’s people sent a mental pulse. He’s already left the mansion and is on his way.”
At the sound of Logan’s name, a refined and gentle Alpha figure surfaced in my mind. My second cousin, who lived far away in the territories of Country Y, and whom I’d only met a handful of times when we were pups.
A soft smile touched my lips at the thought of family. I nodded. “I need to freshen up. If he arrives, please have him wait for me in my private office.
“Alright, Isabella, Faye said immediately.
I headed for my private elevator, ready for a shower and a change of clothes. Five straight hours of intense focus, maneuvering lunar–mites through the spirit–core, had left my wolf utterly exhausted.
Logan drove his heavy pack–transport towards Ignis Alchemists. As he gripped the wheel, the thought of seeing Isabella soon made the corners of his mouth lift into an uncontrollable smile, his wolf pacing with anticipation at the reunion.
Just as his transport was about to turn into the Ignis Alchemists‘ parking courtyard-
‘CRASH-!”
A deafening bang ripped through the air, so loud it vibrated through the pavement and into the very marrow of my bones. My head snapped up, my Alpha instincts instantly drawn to the intersection just ahead. A runaway cargo–hauler, like a metal beast gone mad, had plowed straight into several pack–transports idling at the red light.
The sickening crunch of twisting metal, the shattering spray of glass, and then, piercing howls of agony–it all tore through the sudden silence, echoing like a nightmare across the territory,
A horrific pile–up, unfolding right before my eyes. My stomach lurched.
And then I saw his transport, the black luxury sedan I knew so well, skid to a halt mere feet from the wreckage.
Logan didn’t hesitate. I watched him unbuckle his seatbelt with a swift, jerky motion, already pushing open the door and stepping out into the horror
The scene was pure, sickening chaos. Mangled metal and broken glass gleamed under the harsh sunlight, mixed with the crumpled, still forms of injured wolves. The air was thick, suffocating with the metallic tang of blood–sweet and iron–rich–and the acrid stench of burning lunar–oil and
rubber.
Help me… please, someone save my pup!”
A shrill, heart–wrenching scream tore through the din, cutting straight to my core. My head snapped toward the sound. My eyes landed on an overturned SUV, where a young she–wolf was frantically clawing at the wreckage. Her arm was already a bloody mess, raw flesh exposed, as she desperately tried to reach inside.
‘My pup… my leg is trapped… Someone, please save my pup!”

I watched Logan dart forward. He dropped to the ground, peering under the overturned SUV.
Мати
Underneath, I could just make out a small male pup, perhaps five or six, utterly trapped by a twisted seat. His abdomen was impaled by a jagged piece of silvered metal from the wreckage.
Bright red blood seeped from the pup’s wound, slowly spreading into a dark, small pool on the asphalt beneath him. The pup’s face was an unnatural, ashen gray, his lips a shocking blue. His eyes were half–lidded, and his breathing so shallow, I could barely detect a rise and fall of his tiny chest.
It was a penetrating wound. I knew instantly: with an injury like that, the metal was acting as a plug. Any attempt to remove it would cause instant, fatal hemorrhaging.
Logan whipped his head around, his voice an Alpha roar directed at the bewildered, frozen crowd. “A healer–covenant!” he yelled. “Where is the damn healer–covenant?!”
Someone in the crowd, their voice choked with sobs, shouted back, “The road… it’s blocked! Crashes everywhere, front and back! The healers can’t get through the pack–jam!”
The young mother’s cries, already sharp with panic, turned piercing, as if her throat was tearing apart. Cold sweat beaded on Logan’s forehead. He knew if they waited any longer, the pup wouldn’t make it.
Not far away, Lola’s transport also came to a stop.
I’d been following Logan’s scent–trail, and when the accident happened, my heart nearly leaped out of my chest. I stared ahead, terrified something terrible would happen to him..
The moment Lola spotted Logan–unharmed and already rushing headfirst into the chaos to help–her initial relief, if it was even genuine, dissolved. A calculating gleam instantly replaced the fear in her eyes. I could practically hear her thoughts, cold and clear: This is my chance.
She swiftly composed her features, pinning a perfectly modulated expression of worry onto her face, and then hurried, almost tripping, toward him.
Logan, my love,” she cooed, her voice sickeningly sweet, trying to project a soothing pheromone, “I’m so relieved you’re alright. It’s far too dangerous here. We really should go.” She reached out, her hand already trying to pull him away.
Logan’s gaze slashed her way, and there was no urgency, no anger in his eyes–just a chilling, cold disdain that made her wolf cower.
‘Get out.”
Just one word.
Lola’s hand froze mid–air, her entire body stiffening. The raw irritation, the blatant disgust in Logan’s eyes was unmistakable. I knew it hit Lola harder than anything she’d faced at the landing zone or back at the old mansion.
I…” Her voice trailed off. I watched her bite her lip, her eyes instantly reddening, brimming with an overwhelming sense of injustice.
But Logan acted as if he hadn’t seen a thing, not bothering to spare her even an extra glance. He turned his head away, his gaze snapping back to the transport’s undercarriage. I could practically feel his mind racing, desperate to find some solution.
But around him, there was nothing but twisted metal and shattered glass. No ritual tools, nothing.
Time ticked by, each second dragging. The pup’s breathing from beneath the transport seemed to grow fainter, almost imperceptible. Nearby, the mother’s cries had transformed from sharp screams into uncontrollable, desperate sobs.
Just as everyone stood paralyzed, utterly helpless, watching a life fade right before their eyes…
A frigid voice cut through the clamor of the crowd.
‘Move.‘
Everyone instinctively turned around. Then I saw a she–wolf in ritual–scrubs striding forward.
I moved, my tall frame and unreadable face radiating a cool Alpha detachment that seemed to ripple through the air. People instinctively parted, making way for me without a second thought as my scent–crisp and commanding–filled the space.
Logan also looked up. His gaze landed on my face, and a flicker of surprise crossed his features. Even after all these years, he still recognized me–his cousin, Isabella.
A slow realization crossed his face, an unspoken acknowledgment through our familial link that I’d grown up, far more beautiful and powerful than the girl he’d known.
Lola also saw me. The jealousy was instantaneous, a sudden inferno I could feel blazing from her scent profile. How the hell? I could feel the weight of countless gazes, and I knew Lola bristled, clearly resentful of the attention I commanded simply by showing up.

I paid no attention to anyone’s gaze. I walked straight to the overturned SUV and knelt down. One look was all it took for me to make my assessment.
*Abdominal penetrating wound, severe blood loss, possible ruptured spleen. In three minutes, this pup will enter irreversible shock and die.”
My voice wasn’t loud, but it cut through the chaos, reaching everyone clearly. Professional. Calm. Undeniable.
The young mother, grasping at a last, desperate straw, scrambled towards me, her raw anguish palpable. She latched onto my pants leg.
“Please… please save my pup! You have to have a way, don’t you?” she pleaded, tears streaming down her face.
My gaze fell on the dying pup. A flicker, almost imperceptible, disturbed the usual stillness in my eyes. My wolf stirred, feeling the collective plea of the pack. From my wrist, I unclasped something that looked like a bracelet–the sleek, silver form of a lunar–mite emitter radiating a futuristic glow.
I’m Isabella, from Ignis Alchemists,” I stated.
I met the pup’s mother’s gaze, my voice steady, each word delivered with deliberate clarity. “Right now, your pup’s condition is critical. We likely don’t have time to wait for a healer–covenant.”
The pup’s mother heard me, and her composure shattered. She burst into tears.
“Don’t cry yet! I can save him!”
My voice was low but firm, and it jolted the distraught mother, momentarily quieting her. Once she was receptive, I quickly explained, “I can save him using medical lunar–mites, but there are risks…”
I hadn’t even finished speaking before the mother grabbed my hand, tears streaming down her face. “Please,” she sobbed, “please save my pup!”
