Chapter 569.
Manu
Uncle, we’re family. There’s no need to talk about pack–credits like this between us.” I’d done everything I could to minimize the damage, but I knew I’d still wounded his Alpha pride. My wolf, Nala, lowered her head in my mind, feeling the residual sting of the betrayal that had nearly fractured the Grant Pack’s foundation.
Carson nodded, then slid the bank card back across the table. Then all the more reason not to fuss over such a small amount with me, Isabella.
1 offered a small smile and retrieved the card.“Alright. I’ll put these assets to good use.”
My thoughts drifted to Wendy, and I could almost feel her frantic energy through the pack’s collective unconscious–her mind on the verge of breaking. I knew the credits she’d gotten from selling off her spirit–silver jewelry and ancestral heirlooms were gone, poured into rogue private trackers trying to find Leo, but every scent–trail had vanished without a trace.
Her two point six billion credits!
That was every single token she’d squeezed out of the Grant family, every territory asset she’d liquidated, even if it meant completely destroying her reputation among the high–ranking she–wolves.
It was supposed to be her and Lola’s guarantee for a lifetime of luxury and high–rank comfort.
And now, it was all gone.
Then I imagined her Howlnet communicator ringing.
She would have glanced at the screen, seeing Andrew’s name.
I could picture her swiping to answer, irritation flashing across her face, her tone still carrying that haughty Luna air she used to have as the Alpha’s
mate.
Hello?
She–wolf Wendy.”
On the other end, Andrew’s voice was cold, edged with an almost mocking tone. I knew he was thinking about how she still clung to the delusion of being the Grant Luna, even after the bond dissolution from Carson.
He knew Wendy’s most vulnerable point, her Achilles‘ heel, was Lola. So he didn’t hold back, twisting the silver knife with his next words:
My patience is wearing thin. If that pup–sanctuary project credits don’t come through soon, I’m finding another pack to partner with
Wendy’s face darkened, catching the disrespect in his words. Her pride, I knew, must have been screaming. When had a bastard–born wolf ever dared o speak to her like that?
With a cold face, she said, I’ve had a small financial hiccup in my territory. I’ll get it to you in a few days.
Andrew scoffed, cutting her off
Wendy, I’m not negotiating with you If the credits aren’t in my account by six PM tomorrow, our collaboration is automatically canceled. I’ll find
omeone else!‘
Those words, I knew, were a silver dagger plunged straight into Wendy’s most vulnerable spot She could be penniless she could be abandoned by Carson, but there was no way she’d let Lola’s dance for a social comeback just vanish!
I was Lola’s only hope to regain her tank!
Yes! I am sincere! Wendy’s voice cracked, all traces of her usual Luna pride completely gone She promised desperately, “The credits. HA ou right away! By siz tomorrow afternoon, not a single penny will be mixing!
I’ll be waiting

Then, I imagined a sudden shift in her. Her head would snap up, a desperate, almost wild glint igniting in her bloodshot eyes. A flicker of predator
madness.
No.
She wouldn’t be beaten. Not like this.
She wasn’t left with absolutely nothing.
She still had her pup.
And then, I knew what Wendy’s last desperate hope was. Yes, Evan! He’s my own pup, so devoted to me. He would never abandon his mother–wolf!
He’s the future Alpha–heir of the Grant Pack; seventy million is a drop in the bucket for him!
knew Wendy. She would have seen this as her last desperate chance. I could almost visualize her, rushing to change, then meticulously applying a trategically innocent, yet utterly manipulative, face of makeup to hide the scent of her desperation.
knew her next move. She’d portray herself as the pitiful, helpless mother–wolf, abandoned by the entire pack. This was her ultimate weapon, I knew, he only way she believed she could soften his Alpha resolve.
She was certain this was the only way she’d get him to hand over the money.
At Grant Pack headquarters, in the Alpha–heir’s top–floor office.
Evan was deep in his files, his concentration unwavering. His wolf was calm, focused on the territory’s logistics.
The office door suddenly burst open, and his omega secretary stood there, her face etched with panic.
could almost hear the secretary’s panicked voice, tripping over her words. “Master Evan, the former Luna… she insisted on coming in…”
The words weren’t even out of her mouth before Wendy stormed in, a whirlwind of desperation. Her eyes were bloodshot, her hair slightly disheveled. The carefully applied makeup on her face only made her look more haggard, more pathetic.
Ivan simply waved his secretary away.
You can go now.”
The secretary looked like she’d been granted a reprieve, practically scurrying out and closing the door behind her.
That left only the mother and pup in the roo
room.
wan stood up, his voice dry, a clear sign of his distaste. “Mom, why are you here?”
was the first time he’d been alone with his mother since the bond dissolution. His expression remained carefully neutral, giving nothing away about ow his wolf felt facing the she–wolf who had betrayed their bloodline.
Wendy looked at him, and her tears spilled without a sound.

honestly feels like she can’t go on…
Her sobs were gut–wrenching, tearing through the quiet, as if she’d suffered the cruelest injustice under the Ancient Wolf Covenant.
I watched Evan’s shoulders slump further, his face etched with a familiar pain. His heart was sinking, I could tell, slowly, inexorably.

He wasn’t a young pup anymore. I knew he understood exactly why his father had severed the bond. He was grappling with the crushing reality that his mother–wolf had conspired with outsiders, plotting against the Grant Pack and, more acutely, against the Alpha–heir himself.
But those words, the raw truth of it all, were stuck in his throat. He stood there, utterly rigid, letting her cling to him, her choked sobs and desperate pleas tearing through the silence.
Once she had cried herself out, he finally spoke.
“Mom, Dad’s already compensated you.”
He had given her compensation. My uncle had just run off with every last penny of it. If only she hadn’t been so caught up in her schemes, if she’d just agreed to a clean bond dissolution, all those tokens would have been hers, safe and sound. Probably even more.
Little did I know, those words were like striking a match to a powder keg.
Wendy snapped her head up, her tear–filled eyes fixed on him, brimming with disappointment and pain.
“Compensation? You call that pathetic sum compensation? You know I’ve grown accustomed to a life of high–rank luxury in the Grant Pack. That tiny amount wouldn’t even cover my weekly territory expenses!”
I pictured Evan watching her, his expression unyielding. It was hard for me to grasp why she couldn’t appreciate how well the Grant family had treated her a question I knew Evan must have asked his wolf countless times.
From what I understood, when Wendy saw Evan’s unyielding gaze, she immediately decided Carson Sr. had poisoned their relationship.
“Evan, I’m your mother–wolf! How can you speak to me like that? Who put these ideas in your head? Was it your father, or Isabella? She’s only here to ruin our pack! Look how good we had it before she came along!”
I knew Evan’s patience must have been wearing thin, his temples probably throbbing with frustration. And I knew what she was implying–that I was the outsider, the wedge driven between the bloodline.
But then, what about Lucy?
What about Lucy, the she–wolf who’d led Wendy to betray her mate and plot for the pack’s assets? How could I be the outsider when she’d brought that kind of chaos to the den?
But because she was his mother, those words remained unspoken, trapped behind his lips. He closed his eyes, and when he spoke again, I knew his voice
would be laced with exhaustion.
‘Mom, what do you really want?”
That was the exact opening Wendy had been waiting for. She gave a shaky sniffle, her tears streaming down her face with renewed force.
“Evan,‘ she pleaded, her voice thick, Mom’s not asking for anything else. I just… I just want to do something meaningful for the pack.”
“Your sister, Lola, her reputation is completely shattered because of everything that happened before. She’ll never he able to hold her head up in the Great Hunt again, not really. I want to… I want to start a pup–charity project in her name. To help those poor parentless pups. It would be a way to make amends for her, to give her a chance at a fresh start in the hierarchy.”
She lifted her head, her gaze sweeping to him, now filled with a desperate mix of hope and pleading,
This project… it could bring the Grant Pack such a good reputation among the other clans. It would be good for you, good for our standing
“Evan,” my mother–wolf pleaded, her voice thick with desperation, this is the only thing Mom can do. Please, help me won’t you?”
