I stared in disbelief at Grayson as he walked away.

The air in the underground pack stronghold was still damp and cold, smelling of wet earth and ancient stone. But I felt like I was on fire, my whole body blazing hot with the lingering heat of our shared AlphaBeta proximity. My wolf was pacing restless circles in my mind, her fur bristling against my consciousness as she whined for the contact that had just been severed.

I curled into myself, pressing my back against the cold stone wall, trying to cool the fever in my blood.

Not long after, the noise from the pack warriors outside stopped.

Grayson came back again.

Still fuming, I kept my eyes closed, not moving, refusing to acknowledge the heavy, commanding scent of cedarwood and rain that heralded his arrival.

felt the bed dip beneath me as a hot, powerful body pressed down. He was on top of me, his presence as an Alpha overwhelming the small space, his susky voice a rough whisper against my ear that sent a shiver down my spine.

Still going to run off?

rolled my eyes at him, exasperated. He’d just teased me, then pulled away, leaving my wolf howling in frustration. I was so over him.

When I didn’t respond, Grayson gave my bare shoulder a light, teasing bitea nip that bordered on a marking claim.

Hmm he rumbled, a low, playful threat vibrating in his chest.

I won’t, I breathed, my voice intended to sound annoyed but coming out soft and pliable instead.

Grayson chuckled low, the rumble in his chest making me tremble as my own wolf settled, preening under his attention. He scooped me up, pulling the ough pack blanket from beside us and wrapping my bare skin in its warmth.

This isn’t a place worth remembering,he murmured.

He hated the thought of me suffering, even a little, within these dark Silvermoon borders. Unless, of course, I pushed his buttons. Then, all bets were ff, and his Alpha dominance would flare.

shrunk further into the blanket, only my eyes peeking out to glare at him.

And he still teased me!

Didn’t he know it wasn’t just hewolves who felt that kind of frustration when things stopped halfway? Shewolves did too! My wolf snapped her aws in my mind, echoing my irritation.

Grayson’s gaze softened as it traced my flushed cheeks and the resentment simmering in my eyes. Through our budding fatedmate connection, I ould almost feel his regret, a pang of something close to tenderness washing over me.

But then, a dark shadow crossed his face, instantly replacing the tenderness. I knew exactly what was ripping through him: the raw, gutwrenching hought of what might have happened if he’d arrived at this stronghold even a moment later. The sheer force of his imagined terror felt like it tore at пy own bloodcore.

Give me your hand.

didn’t understand why, but I still obediently stretched out a hand from under the blanket.

Grayson took my hand, then pulled a small medical kit from his pocket and started carefully treating the scrapes on my arm. His claws were retracted, is touch so light, so gentle. It was like two completely different wolvesthe one now, and the rough, wild Alpha from just moments ago.

The cotton swab, dipped in antiseptic, gently wiped over the wound.

A faint prickle of pain made me instinctively flinch, my inner wolf letting out a small whimper.

Does it hurt?Grayson asked, looking up at me, his eyes momentarily flashing amber.

shook my head.

These minor scratches were nothing to a member of the Silvermoon Pack

Does it hurt? Still going to be so reckless next time?Grayson’s voice dropped, heavy and low, thick with the weight of the Ancient Wolf Treaty and his responsibility to protect me.

I pressed my lips together, staying silent.

Grayson saw my stubbornness, and I could tell it only fueled his frustration.

Silence means you still don’t get it.

I pressed my lips together again, lifting my eyes to meet his, my gaze steady.

Grayson,I said, if anything happened to you, I couldn’t live without you.

I stated the fact calmly, without a trace of hesitation. It wasn’t just the blood bond or the fatedmate pull; it was the truth of my soul. It wasn’t just him who would sacrifice everything, even his life, for me.

I would, too.

Grayson’s hand, which had been applying the ointment, froze. He looked up, his gaze locking with my clear eyes. In my eyes, there was no trace of grievance or regret, only unwavering resolve and absolute certainty.

I was telling him that even if it happened again, even if the moon turned bloodred, I would do the exact same thing.

Grayson’s heart, I could tell through our proximity, was a tangled mess of tenderness and Alpha frustration. He tossed the cotton swab aside and, in one swift motion, pulled meblanket and allinto his tight embrace.

Isabela, you really are

He looked like he wanted to yell at me, to chew me out for risking my life, but whatever harsh words he might have had seemed to die in his throat. Instead, all that anger dissolved into a helpless sigh.

You nearly scared the life out of me,he muttered.

He buried his face in my neck, inhaling my pheromones. His voice was muffled and carried a raw edge of vulnerability, almost a wounded sound that echoed his inner wolf’s pain.

My heart just melted. I reached out, gently wrapping my arms around his strong, taut waist.

I’m sorry,I murmured, my voice soft. From now on, don’t ever try to stop me. I’ll take you with me, and if we face danger, we’ll just fall asleep together, forever.

Grayson didn’t say anything, but he tightened his arms, pulling me even closer until I could feel the rhythmic thrum of his bloodcore. We just clung
