“Understood.”
Julia was forced into an armored transport headed for a private airfield.
Two bodyguards had her pinned in the backseat, their weight keeping her from shifting.
Her heart, I knew, had shattered back in that cold study at the Green family home.
She had nothing left.
My brother didn’t want me.
My mother didn’t want me either.
I was a complete outcast, utterly discarded by the pack.
The transport sped down the ridge–highway.
Julia stared out the window, the night blurring past us. The look in her eyes was unnerving, a fierce, almost desperate madness that made hackles rise even from a distance.
I can’t just leave!
I knew she wouldn’t just let Aurora and me revel in our triumph.
She couldn’t just let me and Aurora get away with it, not like this. And I knew exactly what she wanted: blood–vengeance.

But it was too late.
She didn’t hesitate, not for a single second. With a sudden, desperate surge, Julia flung herself from the speeding transport

But I couldn’t afford to dwell on the agony.
I scrambled to my feet, throwing caution to the wind, and bolted into the darkness along the roadside, my wolf’s instincts guiding me Behind me, the transport slammed on its brakes, an ear–splitting screech tearing through the night
I could practically feel the panic, the desperate scramble as the bodyguards spilled out of the transport, baring their teeth and tearing after her But the night swallowed her whole Julia, a fleeting shadow in the moonlight, was gone, vanished into the dense woods of the Neutral Zone
Thirty minutes later.
Aurora received a frantic psychic call from her burler.
