Chapter 94

Linda opened her mouth to say something but ultimately just nodded softly.

I’ll go then. Be careful. Her scent held a mixture of concern and apprehension.

With that, she turned to leave, the weight of my Alpha presence making her unconsciously quicken her pace. My wolf sensed her fear, a low growl rumbling in my chest.

Emily watched Linda go, then pulled out her communicator, quickly sending a mental message to Caleb.

The silence that followed was deafening, an absence of response that stung.

Frustration flashed in her eyes as she bit her lip; why did he treat her like a sister but ignore her when she needed him? She sent a message to Jared instead. The connection was immediate.

As soon as she sensed Jared’s mental presence, her emotions flooded her; her scent was a mixture of distress and manipulation. She mentally whispered, Jared

Sensing her distress, Jared’s anger flared. His mental message was sharp and demanding.

Emily, what’s wrong? Did Isabella bully you?

She sobbed uncontrollably. Her scent was a potent cocktail of fear and manufactured vulnerability.

His anger intensified. Emily, don’t cry. Tell me where you are; I’ll come right away!

Through her sobs, she managed to give him her location before ending the connection. With tears still on her face, she abandoned her earlier pitiful expression, glaring through the glass at me laughing with my packmates.

My wolf picked up on her simmering resentment, a low chuckle rumbling in chest.

Before long, a sleek, crimson moonshadow runner screeched to a halt. Jared jumped out and immediately spotted Emily curled up against the wall, shivering in the cold wind.

He rushed to her, his concern palpable in his scent.Emily, how did Isabella bully you?

She looked at him, her voice trembling.

Jared, II saw Isabella interacting with several hewolves; they have a bad reputationI wanted to warn her, butbut IsabellaHer scent was a carefully constructed narrative of victimhood.

Before she finished, Jared’s imagination filled in the blanks, picturing me bullying Emily, and his anger reached a boiling point! His scent became a dangerous mix of fury and righteous indignation.

He turned to rush into the den, but she grabbed his sleeve, pleading pitifully.

Jared, don’tdon’t go; she’ll be angryshe’ll scold meHer scent was a desperate plea for protection.

But he was beyond listening to any objections, shaking off Emily’s grip.

Wait in the runner; I’ll find her!

Chapter 94

He strode into the den towards me. I was listening to a packmate talk about a hunting party.

Our hunt leader was busy tracking a rare white stag; she slipped and fell.

Isabella!

A furious shout rang out, and everyone turned to see Jared’s dark face charging toward me.

His scent was a wave of pure rage. He grabbed my wrist, shouting,

Isabella! Aren’t you shameless? Interacting with these hewolves; do you have any decency?!

He stormed over, and Lucy instinctively stepped in front of me. I was worried Jared would hurt her, reaching out to pull her back, but it was too late.

My wolf felt a surge of protective instinct.

He pushed Lucy aside, and she lost her balance, about to fall.

My wolf growledthis was unacceptable.

I quickly grabbed her arm, pulling her back with all my strength. Though I had gained some weight over the moon cycle, I was still too light, and my body wasn’t enough to counterbalance Lucy. I braced myself against the table.

Bang!

The sound of the table overturning echoed through the den.
