Chapter 203

Rebecca picked up the phone and held it back to Vance’s ear.

Aiden called out, “Vance? You still there?”

“Mmm…” Vance murmured. “Take care of Cathy.”

“Why are you so hard on yourself? Take care of her yourself,” Aiden sighed.

Rebecca wasn’t sure if she imagined it, but a tear seemed to slide from the corner of Vance’s eye. His voice cracked, confirming her suspicion.

“I can’t,” he sobbed. “Not in this lifetime. Have to take responsibility for Rebecca. I really can’t. Cathy…”

“Okay, get some rest. Catch you later,” Aiden exhaled deeply, ending the call.

Rebecca set the phone beside Vance, feeling nothing. Actually, he didn’t need to worry. She’d grant his

wish.

Thanks to the alcohol, her puzzle was solved. Before, she had wondered how Vance had bought Catherine a new house and all that luxury without breaking her three rules.

Turned out, it had been through Aiden. As a reward, Aiden got a huge raise and millions for bonus.

Vance was clever. Technically, he hadn’t violated anything, but didn’t his conscience sting? It made sense, though. His heart had always tilted toward Catherine. P

The countdown to leaving was now on day three. When Rebecca woke up the next morning, she only had two days left before she flew to Arelmoor to meet everyone.

She would take Josette with her and move straight into the apartment Lauren had rented. Then she’d catch the evening flight out with the team.

A month later, when she returned to the country, she wouldn’t come back to Soliaridge. Rather, she’d stay in Arelmoor with Josette to get the visa sorted. Then it would be almost time for school.

The plan was perfect. She just needed it all to go smoothly.

To avoid any more trouble, she decided to stay at home and refrained from calling Josette. She couldn’t

risk it, not when Vance was home.

He was still in the shower. The sound of running water had woken her this morning, reminding her of the night of their fifth anniversary.

The same sound had shattered the last of her hopes for their marriage. It felt like yesterday, yet her heart had gone through endless turmoil.

When the water shut off, she was watching a funny variety show on her phone.

Vance stepped out of the bathroom, drying his hair. She just pretended she didn’t see him.

Unable to hold back, he asked, “Was I totally wasted last night?”

“Yes,” she replied, laughing because one of the actors on the show had just done something hilarious.

Her head was propped against the headboard. Her butt was on fluffy pillows, and her body was wrapped in a soft comforter. The temperature was perfect, and she looked quite comfortable.

He tossed the towel and lay down beside her, propping himself on one elbow. “Cozy, huh? And you left me on the sofa all night?”

He suddenly leaned in, and water from his hair dripped onto her pillow.

She instinctively scooted away, frowning. “Move over. Your hair’s dripping!”

“What’s that look on your face? Grossed out by me? So what if my hair is wet?” He leaned in further, and water was dripping all over her face.

She planted a hand on his cheek and shoved with all her might.

“Alright, I’ll stop.” He caught her hand, his eyes flickering. “When I got home last night, did I talk to Aiden on the phone for half an hour?”

“Yeah.” She grimaced, uncomfortable with water on her hands.

“Don’t make that face. I’m not dirty.” He grabbed a tissue and wiped her hands.

She didn’t want to arouse any suspicion. Or else, she would have argued. With only two days remaining,

she swallowed it for a smoother sail.

“By the way, what did Aiden and I talk about for so long?” he asked casually, avoiding her eyes.

That was clearly a guilty look.

Rebecca sneered inwardly but kept her voice light. “Oh, you were just gushing about Cathy Babe!”

“Don’t be sarcastic,” he protested.

“Am I wrong?” she countered. “That’s literally how you have her saved on your phone-Cathy Babe.”

“Uh…” He paused. “That was from a long time ago. I never changed it.”

“Oh, you can change it now,” she pushed.

“Why do you have to…”

“It’s fine. Keep it as it is. I don’t care.”

She held up her phone again, ready to watch the rest of the show. Some actors were born for comedy. Their faces alone could make her laugh.

While she was cracking up, Vance suddenly blocked the screen with his hand. “What exactly did I say last night?”
