Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 211

Chapter 211

It was a classic goad, but Desmond didn’t bite.

From behind Rebecca, he taunted, “A real man’s job is to protect the woman he loves most, not throw her under the bus the second things get dangerous.”

Rebecca laughed, sharp and mocking. “You’re wrong. Mr. Bradford is a real man. Today, he protected the person he loves most.”

She wasn’t Vance’s anything or had ever received his love. If she had once tried to save face and pretend, that time was over. She had nothing left to hide.

Vance squeezed his eyes shut. When he opened them again, they were full of pain. “That’s not true. I

didn’t have a choice.”

“Oh, right. No choice but to sneak around with another woman. No choice but to parade her in public so kidnappers couldn’t even tell who your wife was. No choice but to pick the other woman when your wife was right there,” Desmond scoffed. “Where do all these scenarios come from?” (1)

“Say one more word, and I’ll kill you.” Vance lunged forward again.

“Enough!” Rebecca snapped. “You have the nerve to come here and throw a fit? You have the nerve to attack the man who saved my life?”

“H-He has ulterior motives.” He jabbed a finger at Desmond.

“Yeah, and your heart is pure gold,” she countered, rendering him speechless.

She was grateful to Desmond, who had risked his life to save her and missed his flight. She couldn’t let him miss the evening one, too, or the fruit would spoil.

She turned to him. “I can’t thank you enough for your help today.”

“What else does he want?” Vance roared. “Name the price. I’ll pay it!”

Ignoring him, she continued, “Go. Your cherries can’t wait. I’ll see you around.”

“How are you going to thank him? Say it! I’ll do it for you,” Vance said, finally remembering his duty as a husband.

But neither of them paid him any attention.

Seeing Desmond’s worried expression, she mouthed, “See you in Arelmoor.”

Mad about their silent exchange, Vance rushed forward and yanked her into his arms. “What was that? A secret signal?”

Still, no one answered him.

Rebecca gave Desmond a reassuring look. “Go. I’m fine.”

He finally nodded. “All right. Call me if anything happens.”

That set Vance off again. “Call him for what?”

Desmond ignored his outburst and waved. “Bye, Rebecca. See you.”

“Bye.” She waved back.

Vance was oblivious to their plan to meet again in two days. He scowled. “All that ‘bye’ and ‘see you’… You two really can’t stand to be apart, huh?”

He slammed the door shut and turned to face her.
