Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 212

Chapter 212

Vance pulled Rebecca into his arms, holding her without a word.

She didn’t resist. It was not worth her energy.

After a while, she spoke. “Are you done yet? My legs are strained.”

“It’s my fault.” He scooped her up, carried her to the bed, and set her down. “Tired? Want to rest a while?”

She didn’t answer, and his expression grew heavy. “I know what happened today hurt you, but in that situation, I didn’t have an easy choice.”

“Choice?” she laughed with disgust.

He sighed, “Cathy really cares about her face…”

“And I don’t?” she shot back.

“No. It’s just that she works in the public eye,” he faltered. “A scarred face would ruin her career. Plus, she’s not married yet. Her looks matter a lot to her future.”

She understood perfectly. “So, because I’m already married and stay home, my image doesn’t matter. Got it.”

“Of course, it does,” he corrected. “But in an extreme situation like that, her face is more important. You already have…”

Vance glanced at her leg and stopped mid-sentence.

She smiled bitterly and knowingly. “I get it. Since I’m already disabled, another scar on my face doesn’t make any difference, right?”

“You have me,” he explained desperately. “I’ll take care of you for the rest of my life. It doesn’t matter what you look like. You’ll always be my wife.”

“That’s enough,” She laughed coldly. “Is that title so amazing that I have to trade one leg and my face for

it?”

“You’re twisting my words. I…”

“I’m not twisting anything. I get it.”

She was done with his excuses, but he remained skeptical. “You really do?”

“Absolutely,” she confirmed, understanding it too well to feel anything.

“Then, let’s go home?” He reached for her.

“Sure,” she agreed without hesitation.

Of course, she needed to go home. Her passport and all her credentials were still there.

Relieved, he moved to get her up, but she pushed him away, calm as if she hadn’t just walked away from death.

“I need to change.”

“Are you really not angry?”

Her composure felt unreal to him.

“Nope. You made it clear enough. Cathy has to work and get married. Her face can’t be ruined.”

“Exactly. Do you really understand?” 1

“I do.”

He chose to save his beloved woman. What was there not to understand? But understanding didn’t change anything.

It was the same as understanding why Soren had offered her to the kidnappers to pay his gambling debts. Yet understanding the fact didn’t mean she didn’t hate him or hadn’t mentally crossed him out in red.

She understood Vance’s actions. Yes. But she had banished him from her heart.
