Chapter 214
Rebecca didn’t feel like repeating it. Only two days remained now. She couldn’t risk anything that might derail her plans.
Thinking for a moment, she simply said, “People look forward. You can’t keep staring at the past, or how do you keep living?”
Vance let out a relieved breath. He smiled at her, then reached over to stroke her hair with rare
tenderness. “I’m glad you think that way. No matter what, we’re in this for life. The most important thing is to stay happy and open-minded.”
She nodded in agreement only to the latter part, but she wasn’t interested in spending a lifetime with him.
“I’ll get back to work then,” he said, pulling out his phone. “Once I wrap this up, I’ll be free. We’ll pick up Josette and go on that trip.”
Right then, Rebecca’s phone pinged with a notification of him transferring her a million dollars. He kept throwing money around lately, but she liked it.
“We’ll have about ten days,” he continued. “Look at where you want to go and plan something nice. Don’t worry about the cost. International might be too last-minute, but a beach island or wherever you and Josette want is fine. You two decide.”
She nodded, delighted that their travel budget had grown again. Yet instead of leaving, he sat there strangely staring at her, as if he had never known her before.
Before Catherine came back, he had always been gentle, but that gentleness had always been mixed with distance. Being kind to her seemed to be just part of his job-something he didn’t want to do but had to.
Now his gentle eyes held something new: eagerness and satisfaction, like the king feeling pleased with the queen for accepting the concubine and maintaining the harem’s harmony. 1
Disgusted, she said bluntly, “Why aren’t you leaving?”
He suddenly cupped her face with both hands, and she had a bad feeling. Sure enough, he leaned in fast to kiss her. She quickly lifted the cherry in her hand to her mouth, and his lips landed on it.
He pulled back instantly, disgusted. “Don’t let me see those cherries again. They’re revolting!”
He stood up and headed for the door.
She looked at the cherry; half of it had touched his mouth. She tossed it straight into the trash, feeling disgusted. 1
“What would you like for dinner?” He glanced back. “I’ll have my assistant book a restaurant, and I’ll pick you up myself.”
“Anything is fine.” She lay down on the sofa, more comfortable with just herself.

Pick her up? Should she thank him?
“I’ll decide then.” He grabbed the car keys and left.
Rebecca started thinking about how to handle the divorce. Should she bring it up in the next two days, go to the courthouse, and get it done before she leaves? 1
Or should she just leave a letter, state her decision, and handle the paperwork when she came back in a
month?
She honestly didn’t know. She had mentioned divorce plenty of times, but he had never agreed.
Couldn’t Catherine step it up already and get him to marry her? If Catherine got pregnant, he’d probably propose on the spot. (1
Rebecca felt a headache coming on.
