Chapter 218

Vance had promised to take Rebecca and Josette on a trip. Now Rebecca was curious about how he would answer.
Vance hesitated for a split second, then readily agreed, “Sure, let’s go to the islands.”
“Man!” Aiden groaned theatrically. “You’re dumping all the work on us so you two can go play lovebirds?”
“That’s not fair. We want double pay,” Lucas protested playfully.
“No problem, I’ll cover it,” Vance chuckled.
“I want gifts, too!” Aiden chimed in.
“You’ll have them,” Vance agreed with a smile.
“By the way, you said Rebecca was coming to dinner. Where is she?” Catherine asked.
Aiden jumped in, “She never liked us anyway. You’re the only one who keeps trying to be nice to her, and she keeps giving you the cold shoulder. You never learn.”
“Come on,” Catherine protested playfully. “It’s for Vance. If I were him, I’d want my wife to get along with my friends so I would not be stuck in the middle. Plus, with what happened this morning, his choice must have hurt her. I should make it up to her.”
“Vance, Vance, Vance… Makes us jealous,” Aiden teased.
“So what? He spoils me the most. And you?” she said.
“What about me?” Aiden protested. “But with you putting in all this effort for Vance, it’s no wonder he chose you today. You earned it.”
“Don’t say that. Rebecca loves him very much,” Catherine said righteously. “Vance choosing me today must have crushed her. I’ll explain everything. Don’t worry about it.”
“It’s fine,” Vance responded. “Rebecca is reasonable. She doesn’t mind at all.”
“Yeah,” Aiden said, “She is disabled, to begin with. A mark on her face won’t make Vance detest her. He’s stuck supporting her for life anyway.”
Rebecca looked at herself in the mirror. If her head weren’t quite clear right now, she might have started doubting whether she was the problem.
Why did they talk like this? Sure enough, birds of a feather flock together.
“Don’t say that stuff where she can hear,” Catherine cautioned. “Girls care about their looks. If Rebecca heard you, she’d be upset.”
“It’s fine. I already explained it to her, and she accepted it. She is quite understanding. You guys don’t need to worry,” Vance reassured them.

It was rare for him to praise Rebecca like that. That was quite something.
“You think so? Women always say the opposite of what they mean. She might say it’s fine, but inside, she’s already sentenced you to death,” Lucas chimed in.
Rebecca was surprised that he had spoken her mind. She didn’t mind the teasing, but the line about sentencing Vance to death resonated with her.
“No way.” Vance shook his head. “If you don’t believe me, ask her. Rebecca, are you done there? Everyone’s here.”
