Chapter 219
“Rebecca is already here?” Catherine exclaimed.
Rebecca dried her hands, stepped out of the bathroom, and smiled brightly. “Yep. Just fixing my hair. Even though I’m crippled, I still like to look nice.”
Aiden cleared his throat with embarrassment.
Rebecca continued, “What’s wrong, Aiden? Should I not care about my appearance? Or since I’m already a cripple, it doesn’t matter if I’m pretty or not?”
“No… That’s not what I meant,” he stammered.
Rebecca realized that when she let loose and acted recklessly, everyone else suddenly lost their nerve.
“We were just talking with Vance about going to the islands. Want to join us?” Catherine quickly changed the subject.
Rebecca looked at Vance with a half-smile. He shifted uncomfortably. Of course, he was uncomfortable; he had just promised her they would take Josette on a trip.
“It would be nice if we went to the islands together, right?” Vance winked, signaling her not to spoil the
fun.
“I’m not going,” she refused. “I’m a cripple who can’t swim. What would I do on an island?”
“Rebecca…” Vance frowned, holding back his annoyance. “You don’t have to swim to enjoy yourself.”
“Yes, you do,” she replied. “What if both Cathy and I fell into the sea? You’d save her, and I’d drown.” 3
Vance was speechless.
Catherine immediately put on a pitiful expression. “I know you’re upset about what happened this morning, and I came here to apologize. Vance said you understood, but I know you don’t. I’m sorry. If you need to blame someone, blame me.”
“It’s fine. I’m not angry at all. I’m already disabled; one more mark doesn’t matter.” Rebecca waved her hand dismissively.
Aiden’s expression shifted, which was noticed by Vance. He couldn’t help but intervene. “Rebecca…”
“What? Am I not telling the truth? Isn’t that what you all said?” Rebecca smiled. “I mean, it’s not my fault my leg is like this. Right, Vance?”
For five years and nearly 2,000 days, she had carefully guarded Vance’s conscience, afraid he would feel guilty and bear too heavy a burden because of her disability.
She never brought it up, but everyone else did. They used her crippled leg as a weapon against her. But when she wielded the defect herself, it became a weapon against them.

“Everyone’s here. Can you be a bit more considerate?” he said, worried she would say something even
more extreme.
“I’ve always been considerate,” she chuckled. “But I’ve noticed that when I am, others aren’t. And when I’m not considerate, everyone suddenly is. So, it seems better for me to just stop being considerate.”
Right then, the waiter knocked on the door. Lucus quickly said, “Alright, the dishes are here.”
Rebecca realized she had been wrong before. Why had she ever avoided eating with these people? She
should have come and enjoyed herself. 1
As each dish arrived, she reached for it first, while the others hesitated.
“This one is for Cathy,” Vance murmured when the tuna was placed on the table.
“Oh? I can’t eat it?” Rebecca turned to Catherine. “Am I not allowed to have this?”
