Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 255

Chapter 255

Nancy couldn’t reveal the truth.

“Then stay on,” Vance said firmly. “Ask for whatever you need. You’ve done a wonderful job and deserve

a raise.”

“But…”

“She’s only gone for a month.”

He had checked the troupe’s European tour and confirmed the duration. Nancy stayed quiet, knowing

better.

“Shall I bring the food in, or would you rather come to the table?” she asked, deciding to stay another

month until the divorce was final.

She couldn’t spill the beans now and risk ruining Rebecca’s plans.

Vance couldn’t eat in bed. Though he wasn’t hungry, he wasn’t the kind of man to indulge his whims.

“I’ll eat in the dining room,” he said.

“Understood,” she replied, heading out to the dining room, where Cecilia had already set the table.

Vance came out and noticed the extra person.

Nancy pulled Cecilia close to her and urged, “Say hello to Mr. Bradford.”

“Hello, Mr. Bradford,” Cecilia said shyly, knowing her spot at the elite school was thanks to him.

“I’m sorry for the trouble,” Nancy said. “I planned to pack and leave today, so I brought Cecilia to help.”

Vance brushed it off, sitting down.

“It’s summer break, right?”

“Yes.”

“You don’t have anywhere to stay?”

“We do.”

The truth was, for the past five years, Cecilia had been in school boarding during every winter and summer break.

Now Nancy had decided to stop boarding and rent a place instead. She figured that if she was going to move out of this place, she might as well rent somewhere decent and spend some quality time with her daughter.

Cecilia had just come back from a summer camp, and Nancy planned to rent a place in the next few

days.

“Where?” Vance asked. “Renting? The rent near her school is insane. Your whole paycheck would disappear.”

She started to explain it was not her aim, but he continued, “Just let her stay here and sleep with you. It won’t bother us. She boards during the school year anyway, and summer renting is a hassle for nothing.”

“You’re right, sir. Thank you,” she agreed.

It made sense, and she didn’t want to leave Cecilia alone.

Vance only ate a little, struggling with the discomfort of swallowing. It hurt too much to eat properly.

After he set down his fork and knife, he was still too tired to do anything. He simply returned to the

bedroom to rest.

The illness had taken a toll on him. He had never been so sick before.

Grabbing his phone from the bedside table, he glanced at the numerous missed calls from the office, clients, and Catherine.

The WhatsApp notifications were nearly overflowing. As he went through them, one conversation caught his eye. He opened it and saw a list of missed voice calls.

One had a duration, meaning she had answered at some point, but he couldn’t remember what he had

said to her.

There was also a draft he had been editing-something he had typed out in a foggy, feverish state. He stared at the words on the screen for a long time before finally deleting them one by one.
