Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 289

Chapter 289

The moment they landed, they went straight to the prison. Rebecca revealed her identity as Soren’s daughter and asked to see him.

As expected, Soren had already been released on bail.

“I just got back from overseas,” she said frantically. “May I ask who arranged the bail for my dad?”

The officer told her it had been done through a lawyer. Soren’s family hired one and paid the bail.

It didn’t make sense. If they were willing to spend the money, Soren would have been out long ago. They hadn’t done so or sought a lawyer because they didn’t have the funds.

It all pointed to one fact. Someone else had footed the bill.

“I know who it was,” she muttered soullessly, sinking on the curb outside.

“Vance?” Desmond guessed quietly.

Rebecca pulled out her phone, stared at the long string of missed calls, and dialed back.

Vance answered almost instantly, his voice bright with surprise and joy. “Rebecca, you’re back? Why didn’t you tell me beforehand? I’d have picked you up. Where are you right now? I’ll be right there.”

“Where is Josette?” She demanded, not interested in his topic.

“Josette?” He blinked. “You hid her from me. Why ask me now?”

“Tell me where Josette is!” she yelled.

He paused, turning serious. “What are you talking about? What happened? Is she okay?”

“She went missing! Where did you take her? Tell me!” she cried out, her heart twisted in knots.

She had been holding herself together the whole trip, telling herself to stay calm and think straight. Now all the emotions had crashed down. If Vance had been standing in front of her, she probably would have lost it completely,

“Missing? Rebecca, don’t cry. Tell me what happened,” he soothed her, sounding clueless.

That made everything even scarier, causing a chill to run down her spine. She wiped her tears, pulled herself together, and gritted her teeth.

“Be honest with me. Did you hire a lawyer to get my dad bailed out?”

“No, I didn’t. You told me to stay out of it.”

Rebecca’s grip loosened, and the phone clattered to the pavement.

Vance was a lot of things, but he didn’t lie. If he said he hadn’t done it, he hadn’t.

The situation was even darker now. Josette might be in danger.

“Rebecca.” Desmond and Gabriel spoke at the same time. “We need to call the police.”

She nodded, knowing it was the only option left.

“Let’s go,” Gabriel said, helping her up.

He took her hands, turned around, and lifted her onto his back.

She squirmed. “Gabriel…”

“I know you’re hurting right now,” he said, carrying her outside. “Cry on my shoulder and let it all out. Then we’ll find Josette together.”

The impulse to cry that she had barely suppressed burst forth again, but she didn’t make a sound. Her face rested on his shoulder, and tears streamed down, soaking his clothes.
