Chapter 294

“Come on,” Aiden said gently. “We’re buddies. You free tonight? Let’s grab drinks.”

“Sure,” Catherine agreed readily.

The first thing Vance had done after returning from Europe was look for Josette. He landed in Arelmoor but found zero trace of her-no phone records, no rental history, and no hotel bookings.

Then Aiden called, urging him to come back for some emergencies at the company.

Vance had to fly back, assuming Josette was somewhere in Soliaridge, but it was strange. He had checked every place she might go and come up empty.

He hadn’t thought much, since it was Rebecca who had hidden her. Rebecca cared for her deeply, even while abroad, Rebecca kept frequent contact with her.

If anything had happened, Rebecca would have informed him immediately. After all, he was her only support there; her own family wouldn’t care.

The company was in bad shape, so he had shifted most of his focus there and only asked the driver to check Josette’s house every few days.

He never imagined Josette would go missing. Rebecca wouldn’t answer his calls, so he had no idea what was happening.

He could only guess: Sick? Collapsed somewhere? Connected to whom?

If Josette were sick, hospitals would have records. He sent this driver on the task.

If she had collapsed or been hurt, someone would have found her, and Rebecca would have reported it to the police.

The last clue was the Perry family. He hadn’t forgotten how greedily they had eyed that house, and now they had vanished, too.

That was suspicious.

Just like Rebecca, he went straight to the jail and was told Soren had been bailed out.

Who had posted bail? He followed the trail and confirmed Josette had been taken by the Perrys. The biggest question mark was who had paid for Soren’s release.

He decided to go to the police station to find out. By the time he arrived, it was already dark.

By pure coincidence, there was the woman who had refused to answer his calls, standing beside a man. She was there because the police had pinged Josette’s and the other three’s phones. They had thought it was a breakthrough, but it wasn’t.

Josette’s phone had been found tossed in some bushes in a park. The Perrys had ditched it so no one

could track them.

Rebecca held the evidence bag and cried silently. This was the exact phone Josette had used to communicate with her every day.

“The other three phones are pinging from an apartment complex,” the officer told her. “We checked, and they weren’t there.”

“Don’t worry. We’ll keep looking,” Gabriel said, pulling her against his shoulder so she could lean on him.

Vance entered the room and bumped right into the scene.

“Rebecca!” He stormed forward and yanked her out of Gabriel’s arms.

Her wrist throbbed where he grabbed it, and she snapped, “What are you doing? This is not the time to

lose it. I’m not in the mood to deal with you right now.”
