Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 296

Chapter 296

Gabriel started the car, having brought neither the driver nor Hugo.

Just then, Hugo called.

Gabriel glanced at Rebecca in the passenger seat and didn’t drive off. He answered with a simple hum, letting Hugo speak.

The latter briefed Gabriel about the situation, saying that he had obtained the required things and would send them over.

Soon, several files came onto his phone. Gabriel hung up and opened them one by one.

Hugo’s efficiency was impressive, having compiled dozens of pages, photos, and maps in minutes.

Gabriel scanned everything and got a rough picture.

“Did Hugo need something?” Rebecca asked, noticing his serious expression.

Gabriel shook his head and set the phone down. “Tell me your plan. What are your thoughts about you and Vance?”

Truthfully, she and Gabriel hadn’t known each other for long. They weren’t that close yet, so she had barely mentioned her marriage since they were in Europe.

She certainly hadn’t expected him to ask now. Given his tone, he must have picked up some information from Kaitlyn.

So, she answered honestly, “I’ve thought it through. I’m not going back; I came home to file for divorce. But right now, finding Josette is the only thing that matters. Once she’s safe, I’ll handle the paperwork.”

Gabriel nodded, filing the information away. He looked at her gently. “This is on me. I knew I had a cousin in Soliaridge, but I never realized how hard things had been for you.”

He reached over and stroked her hair. “Divorce is no big deal. You have Kaitlyn and me now. The future is going to be good. Leave this to me. Go back to the hotel and rest. If she comes back seeing you haggard, she’ll blame me for not taking good care of you.”

An inexplicable feeling washed over her. It was warm and soothing, like she finally had a solid wall behind her. There was no more fear or wandering alone,

For 20-plus years, she had walked on thin ice. Her parents didn’t love her; the only person who ever spoiled her was Josette.

She had grown up trying to protect Josette, but no one had ever spoken to her like this. Not even Vance.

Vance had said similar things, like he’d take care of her or be responsible for her forever, but those

words always carried conditions.

Gabriel’s promise was pure, with no strings attached. It was purely family love.

In fact, she didn’t need a protector anymore. She was a grown-up now and could protect herself. Even so, hearing it still touched something deep inside.

“What’s wrong?” Gabriel ruffled her hair. “Let’s go. Back to the hotel so you can rest.”

Arriving at the hotel, Rebecca felt clearer. Sleeping in his suite and on his bed suddenly felt wrong. So,

she went to her own room.

“Call me if you need anything,” Gabriel said, not insisting.

He would probably be going out later anyway. Separate rooms made it more convenient. He didn’t want to disturb her sleep.

“Okay. Sleep tight.” She watched him leave, closed the door, and immediately contacted Vivian.

They had communicated that afternoon, and Vivian had promised to give her an update that night.
