Chapter 306

Rebecca realized Gabriel didn’t know Vance so well after all.

Vance had faced the same choice so many times. The most disheartening moment was when the blade was pointed at her face. He had chosen Catherine over her.

Now that she was safe and sound, he had all the less reason to choose her.

Sure enough, he muttered, “You know me. I’ve never changed my mind about spending my life with you. I just need to handle a few things first, and then I’ll come back.”

“Get out!” Gabriel said, done listening.

Vance wanted to say more, but with Gabriel there, nothing was getting through. Besides, Cathy really might be in danger.

“Wait for me,” he said, hurrying out of the room.

Gabriel stared at the closed door, his face darkening like a thundercloud. But when he turned to Rebecca, he softened immediately.

With a husband like that, how much pain must she have endured?

“Rebecca…” He tried to comfort her.

“I’m fine. Really.” She gave him a small smile, having seen this coming.

There was nothing left to feel sad about. In fact, she and Vance were only one signature away from divorce. The moment Josette was well enough, she would handle the process.

Nothing he did could hurt her anymore.

Gabriel believed her words, but at the same time, he could imagine how much pain and how many hardships it had taken for her to reach that point.

He nodded. “Good.”

These irrelevant people should just stay far away from her.

Just then, a call came from Hugo.

“I’ll take this,” Gabriel said, stepping outside.

“The woman has been released.”

“Good.”

“Are you sure about this? What if she causes more trouble?”

“It will just burn them first. We’ll wait and clean up. By the way, Vance Bradford just ran off to look for her. Have someone tail him.”

“Consider it done.”

Hugo felt funny that Vance had mentioned looking for Catherine right in front of Gabriel. Gabriel was the one who had her captured in the first place.

Hugo added, “And his company is trying to partner with us. Their vice president has reached out several times.”

“Has he?” Gabriel murmured, a slow smile spreading. “Interesting.”

“Truthfully, their qualifications are solid. Vance is capable and talented. It’s a shame…” Hugo sighed. ” Sometimes, a man’s luck doesn’t match his ability.”

“Luck is something you build, don’t you think?” Gabriel said lightly. “I’ll probably be at the hospital for the next few days. Handle everything else for me.”

“I’ve got it.” Hugo nodded.

When Gabriel returned to the room, Rebecca was moistening Josette’s lips with a cotton swab.

Seeing him return, she said, “Was it about work? I heard something about shifting focus to the U.S. market. If you have things to do, go ahead. I can handle this alone.”
