Chapter 307
“It’s nothing urgent,” Gabriel said, sitting beside her. “Just a progress update. Everything’s running smoothly.”
“Now that you’re moving operations, will you and Aunt Kaitlyn eventually settle back here?” Rebecca asked, curious.
“Not right away,” he replied thoughtfully. “I’ll probably be flying back and forth a lot at first. Once things. are stable here, we’ll see if she wants to join. She has her own career and plans, not interested in becoming a full-time mom for me.”
“She is amazing,” Rebecca said sincerely.
Kaitlyn had worked for years as a designer at a major fashion house and had recently gone independent.
Rebecca meant every word. The world outside was so big, yet she had trapped herself for five long years.
“You’re amazing, too,” Gabriel said, warm and genuine.
She felt both flattered and touched by his unconditional support. No matter how rough life had been or what it had turned into, someone would always see the best in her.
This feeling was something she should have received from her parents over 20 years ago, something she had long since given up on. Yet, unexpectedly, at nearly 30, amid the chaos of her life, she found it from a cousin she had only just met.
“Gabriel…” She felt a lump in her throat, unable to finish her words.
He soothed her. “Don’t worry. From now on, we’ll be together forever.”
“Yeah.” She nodded, touched by their genuine care.
When Vance rushed out of the hospital, Catherine had managed to contact Aiden.
She had no money and no phone. Those men had taken everything, dumping her from the car in some remote, empty stretch of road.
By the time she crawled out of the burlap sack, the vehicle was long gone. There wasn’t a single house in sight, let alone people.
Luckily, it wasn’t a highway. Eventually, she stood in the middle of the road and flagged down a car, begging for a ride into the city.
The driver refused, and she tried to borrow a phone instead. Still no.
Without a choice, she gave them Aiden’s number and asked them to dial. They put it on the speaker so she could talk.

Aiden was relieved. “I’m on my way. I’ll notify Vance.”
She panicked, “Don’t call him. Just come alone.”
Since those people had been looking for Josette, they must have ties to Rebecca. Worse still, they knew about her past and might have told Rebecca.
Accordingly, Vance might have learned about it, too.

She had been locked up for days with no idea what was happening outside. Until she understood the situation, she should avoid meeting him.
Aiden arrived in less than half an hour. She climbed into his car, still shaking.
Her state was terrible: messy hair, wrinkled, filthy clothes, and smudged makeup.
Aiden exploded. “What happened to you? Who did this? I’ll kill them!”
Catherine didn’t dare tell him the truth. She stammered, “I was robbed. They took my phone, my jewelry, and my watch.”
Actually, only her phone was gone. She hadn’t been wearing jewelry or a watch.
“Call the police!” he urged.
“No!” she stopped him. “Don’t. Don’t call them.”
