Catherine naturally wouldn’t involve the police. One investigation, and all her secrets would spill out.

Facing Aiden’s confused stare, she fabricated a story. “It’s fine. Forget it. Tarot already showed me this- losing money to ward off the disaster. I’ve come out of it now, and besides…”

She paused. “Rebecca is probably back. The old lady must have been rescued. Is she alive or dead? Do you have any news?”

Aiden blinked. “When?”

“This afternoon,” she replied, observing his expression. “I’m not sure about the situation. Vance values her so much, and her suffering is tied to us. If he finds out…”

Aiden froze. “No, it couldn’t be. W-We only gave Soren the address. She was living there all alone, and her son wanted to take care of her. We were just helping. What’s wrong with that?”

“But they weren’t trying to take care of her,” Catherine reasoned, finding that Aiden wasn’t thinking straight that day.

Who would believe that story? Vance certainly would not.

“But how were we supposed to know?” Aiden countered. “All we knew was a son looking for his mother. Nothing wrong with that.”

Catherine blinked, then understood. “Right. How could we have known? That’s a family matter. No one told us anything. We were just helping.”

He nodded. “Exactly. Vance cares about you so much; he’ll forgive you no matter what. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”

She fell silent, knowing it wasn’t that simple. If that man in the black shirt ever told him about her past overseas, Vance’s confidence might shatter.

Tightening her jaw, she grabbed Aiden’s hand. “We need to lock Vance down further. Make sure he stays on our side forever.”

He looked confused.

She placed her other hand on her stomach and leaned close to whisper in his ear.

His eyes widened. “You…”

She nodded. “I’m sure.”

He fumbled for a cigarette, but she snatched it and tossed it away.

His hands shook as he reached for his phone. “I-I’ll call him and see what’s going on.”

On the way to the company, Vance had arranged to meet Aiden there.

His phone rang, and he answered. “Aiden? What’s happening?”

Aiden glanced at Catherine and probed, “Anything unusual on your end?”

“No,” Vance replied simply. “Cathy’s phone is still off.”

He didn’t mention a word about Josette, and his voice carried no anger.

Aiden winked at Catherine, indicating things were fine. “I found her. She’s not doing great. You should come immediately.”

Vance felt a weight lifted from his chest. “Thankfully, she is safe. I’ll go back now.”

“Wait! She needs you now,” Aiden insisted. “Someone robbed her. She is a mess and terrified, crying nonstop.”

Catherine started sobbing on cue.

Vance paused. “Robbery? Call the police!”

“Just come first. I’m at her place.” Aiden hung up, turning to Catherine. “Tonight, it’s all on me.”
