Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 309

Chapter 309

At Catherine’s apartment, Vance woke up with a splitting headache.

He frowned and rolled over, then realized something far worse than the hangover. He lifted the blanket, looked down, and found himself naked.

It struck him so hard that the alcohol fog vanished instantly. The worst part? He was in Catherine’s bedroom.

Turning his head slowly, he saw her lying beside him. The blanket only covered half of her body, the rest was bare.

His mind racing, he quickly pulled it up to cover her, then started to piece together what had happened last night.

Just then, Aiden’s sleepy voice drifted in from outside. “Vance, where are you? Cathy? Where are you guys?”

In a panic, Vance jumped out of bed and accidentally knocked over a vase.

Aiden followed the sound straight into the room. “Van…”

His voice died the second he saw the scene.

Vance’s face drained of color. “It’s not like that. I don’t know how…”

“Vance…” Catherine stirred, as if the noise had woken her.

Then she seemed to register the situation and let out a sharp scream, clutching the blanket tightly around herself.

Tears welled in her eyes. “Vance…”

His head roared as he recalled last night.

He had arrived late. Catherine had been terrified by the robbery and wouldn’t stop crying. Aiden had ordered takeout and suggested a drink to help her calm down.

One drink turned into many. Vance had his own mountain of worries, so he had drunk far more than usual. He never expected his tolerance to be that bad; he had passed out fast. 1

The last clear memory he had was Catherine crawling into his arms, sobbing about how lonely and scared she was. He had patted her back to comfort her.

Everything after that was a complete blank.

Catherine clutched the blanket, her eyes swimming with tears. “Vance, I don’t blame you. You were upset last night, too. I only wanted to hold you and comfort you, and then you…”

His brows knotted together. He did remember hugging her, but nothing beyond that.

Then a line from five years ago struck him. It was on the day of Rebecca’s surgery. The first thing she said when she woke up was, “Please don’t drink anymore, okay?”

A wave of bitterness crashed over him. He had kept that promise for five years-barely touched alcohol, even when everyone else drank.

He had stuck to soda or tea, but now, he had broken it.

Wrapped in the blanket, Catherine crawled to the edge of the bed and gently took his hand. “Don’t blame yourself. I won’t make you take responsibility. We can pretend nothing happened. Don’t worry a thing.”

“What’s done is done,” Aiden chimed in. “Cathy isn’t asking for anything. Why the long face? A successful man like you has many women on the side. Cathy isn’t trying to replace Rebecca. You can still keep your marriage and just take care of her quietly. If you ever fight with Rebecca, you’ll have somewhere to go. Cathy will always be your safe harbor.” 1
