Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 315

Chapter 315

“I’ll step out for a bit,” Gabriel said. “Call the caregiver if you need anything. I’ll be right back.”

“Go ahead.” Rebecca nodded.

“It’s nothing urgent,” Gabriel smiled. “I’ll be quick.”

He’d booked Josette a private room. Last night, he and Rebecca had both crashed there, taking the sofa and the caregiver’s bed separately.

The daytime caregiver had started that day, but she only handled medical needs. Meals needed a dedicated nanny.

Gabriel mulled it over as he left the ward. In the elevator lobby, five or six men snapped to attention the second he appeared.

“Hugo sent you?” Gabriel groaned.

“Yes, sir,” the lead man reported crisply. “There are more downstairs and under the windows, too.”

Gabriel stared at the matching outfits and felt a headache coming on. “Guys, you’re gonna terrify the nurses. Security here is fine. You don’t need to go in full Secret Service mode.”

“Sir, it’s our job,” the man answered, dead serious.

Gabriel waved it off. “Just try to look a little less like a SWAT team.”

When he and Rebecca had flown back, at least 30 bodyguards had been sprinkled among regular passengers. A second flight had brought dozens more.

Hugo was being too careful, which made sense when they were abroad. Gabriel’s father’s side of the family were sharks circling for blood. But this was overkill.

The bodyguards were at a loss, having worn plain T-shirts just to blend in. But somehow, they had ended up buying the same cut. The conspicuousness was further highlighted by their heights and frames.

“Alright, stay put,” Gabriel sighed.

The elevator dinged, and he stepped in, followed by two guards automatically.

He shook his head with a wry grin. “No need to follow me. Stay here and block Vance Bradford if he shows up.”

“Yes, sir.” They stepped back out.

Gabriel climbed into a car waiting at the curb, finding more bodyguards and Hugo inside.

“This whole production…” he chuckled helplessly.

“Better safe than sorry with the snakes out there,” Hugo replied, deadpan.

The car took them to a sprawling standalone villa. The place had everything-a garden, a swimming pool, and six floors, including a basement and dozens of rooms.

Yet after the full tour, Gabriel wasn’t impressed.

Hugo read that expression. “This is the best option on short notice.”

“Fine, it’ll do. Plenty of space,” Gabriel said. “It will be just a month anyway. We’re not sure if we’ll settle down here. Can’t change the hard fixtures, but we’re gutting every soft furnishing.”

“Yes, sir.” Hugo already knew he hated over-the-top opulence.

“Any-luck finding a housekeeper?”

“It’s slim right now. Should we fly one in from overseas?”

“Keep looking and bring a couple anyway. The more, the merrier.”

The company was still in the early setup phase, with lots of work needing review and approval, so Gabriel swung by the office instead of going back to the hospital immediately.
