Chapter 320
Only then did Vance truly believe Rebecca meant every word.
He pressed her hand down gently. “Wait.”
She looked at him. He refused to let go, stammering, “I’ll read the agreement again. Is it because of him?”
She stared, genuinely confused.
He jerked his chin toward Gabriel. “Is it because of that guy? You think he’s better than me?”
Finally, she understood what he meant and shook his hand off. “Don’t paint everyone with your own dirty brush. He’s my…”
“How long have you even known him? A month? Two weeks?” he interrupted, desperate. “I never saw him in Venice, so it has to be less than half a month.”
“So what?”
“You can’t judge a book by its cover. Can you really trust someone you’ve barely known?”
His know-it-all expression made her laugh.
“I’ve known you for 12 years, so what? Are you worth trusting?”
“Have I ever lied to you? Haven’t I treated you well?”
“Treated me well?” She laughed without humor. “I don’t want to rehash the past; it’s meaningless. Go ask Catherine what happened on the day she was kidnapped. Ask her who you treated better.”
His face went ashen.
“Sorry, I don’t have time to keep digging up old graves. We’ll see each other at the courthouse.” She walked past him toward the building.
Gabriel, waiting on the steps, strode forward instantly. Vance lunged for Rebecca, but Gabriel pulled her smoothly behind him.
He warned, “Mr. Bradford, you can leave now.”
The bodyguards closed in like a black tide as he led Rebecca inside and headed straight into the elevator.
Vance stood frozen in the garden, but they never came down again.
Now Nancy was the only link he had left. She only reported on Josette’s condition and nothing else.
With a full-time caregiver already there, Nancy took the role of cooking and delivering meals.
Efficient as ever, Hugo had the house redecorated and cleaned in just one day. Nancy became the first person moving in, with a driver picking her up daily to deliver meals to the hospital.

Vance ran into her at the inpatient building, but each time, he couldn’t get close enough to speak. He could only watch her carry the lunchbox inside under bodyguard escort.
When he pressed her for more information, she always answered the same, “I don’t know, Mr. Bradford.”
He snapped, “I’m the one who hired you!”
Her eyes dropped. “I’m sorry, sir. I really can’t tell you.”
He couldn’t push further because Rebecca had already texted him: [I’m paying Nancy’s salary now. Please don’t make things difficult for her.]
He smiled bitterly at the screen.
Five days later, Josette was discharged. Vance timed his arrival and had just parked the car when she came out of the building with the help of Rebecca and Gabriel.
