Chapter 338
Catherine’s gaze finally landed on Rebecca’s necklace. She shook her head with exaggerated pity. “And that necklace? You’re here representing Vance, yet you wear cheap glass and tarnished metal? Are you trying to embarrass him?”
Rebecca touched the necklace. Glass? Tarnished metal? That was worth 40 million dollars! She wasn’t one to shout, but this was absurd.
Vance was now only a few steps away. His gaze also fell on the necklace.
Catherine kept going. “It’s okay, Rebecca. I know you don’t understand these things. You were just an arts student. Dancing was your whole world, and then the accident ruined that. You’ve stayed home ever since, scared to go out. You don’t know how any of this works and can’t really help Vance. I get that. Come on. I’ll take you to meet some people.”
She reached for Rebecca’s hand. That force would definitely make Rebecca trip and fall.
Luckily, Gabriel’s grip was iron. Catherine couldn’t budge her.
She shook Catherine’s hand off and stepped back steadily.
“Wait, her leg is fine?” someone murmured.
Catherine lunged forward and flipped up the hem of Rebecca’s gown, exposing the custom shoes. One was flat, and the other was subtly lifted.

Rebecca’s mind went blank with shock. Then a hand closed around hers, guiding her to slap Catherine across the face.
The force sent Catherine crashing to the ground. She fell at Vance’s feet. Her head spinning, she grabbed his pants leg and dragged herself up.
“Vance, I meant well,” she sobbed. “I was afraid Rebecca didn’t know how to act. I just wanted to introduce her to people.”
Before she could finish, a shadow fell over her. Rebecca stood in front of her, with Gabriel looming behind.
For some reason, meeting his eyes through the lenses sent a shiver down her spine.
Gabriel’s voice was low and lethal. “Again.”
Rebecca swung her hand again, knocking Catherine down once more. This was one of the few times she had hit someone. Her palm went numb from the recoil.
Due to her leg condition, she had always been cautious. Any misstep could lead to a fall, making her naturally less combative. She had never thought she would win if she fought back, so she had never tried.

Today, she did it, and it felt amazing.
Catherine had never taken a hit from Rebecca before. She scrambled up and hid behind Vance, tears streaming. “I really was trying to help. Does she hate me that much? I’ll just stay far away from you. I won’t say a word to her.”
Her words landed like a bomb.
Vance shut his eyes for a second, then stepped in front of her and smiled faintly at Rebecca. “You didn’t tell me you were coming.”
The chaos had attracted the attention of the entire hall. Aiden and Lucas were already jogging over.
“Why do you care?” Rebecca said flatly. “It has nothing to do with you.”
Vance only interpreted it as a rebellious remark. After all, in this entire venue, the only person connected to her was him.
