Vance had thought that since Rebecca was his wife, she belonged to him and would never leave. No matter when he came back, she’d always be waiting at home.

How could she bear to leave him? She had loved him so much since high school, even risking her life to save him. How could she really divorce him? How could she abandon their home?

He then discovered she had applied for two visas. “A Schengen visa only needs to be applied for once. Why have there been two applications? Is Gabriel planning to take her away? Has she been in contact with him for a long time and planned to go abroad?”

And he had just said today that since they lived in the same city, they might run into each other someday. If she moved abroad permanently, how would he ever see her again?

Suddenly, the sound of the front door lock turning broke the silence.

“Rebecca!” He jolted upright and rushed toward the living room.

It was pure reflex. Who else could open the door except Rebecca coming home? But the people who

walked in were Catherine and Aiden.

“It’s you two,” Vance muttered, still barefoot.

He then remembered that Catherine knew the passcode.

“Who else did you think it was?” Aiden looked behind him. “You’re home alone, right?”

“Yeah.” Vance slumped lifelessly onto the sofa.

Of course, there wouldn’t be anyone else with him. Rebecca was never coming back.

“We called, but you didn’t answer. Catherine was worried sick about you,” Aiden said, sitting down across

from him.

Catherine sat down right beside Vance.

“What brings you guys here?” Vance asked, his eyes unfocused.

“We were worried about you,” Aiden grumbled. “We care so much about you, but do you care about us at all? Look at the state we’re in. You never even asked.”

Only then did Vance look at them and notice their swollen faces. “What happened?”

“Hmph! Rossi sent people to hit us!” Aiden guessed,

“You should go to the hospital,” Vance said blandly, grabbing his phone to transfer money.

“What?”

“Medical expenses. I’ll cover them.”

He sent an amount large enough for treatment, recovery, and even a vacation.

“What do I need your money for? Can’t I afford medical bills myself?”

“This is on me.”

Catherine chimed in, “It’s not. Aren’t you divorcing Rebecca? Rossi is not related to you anymore.”

Vance froze, then lowered his head in defeat.

“What? You already went through with it?” Aiden asked.

H

Vance nodded. “Yeah.”

Aiden gave a cold laugh. “She really is heartless. Couldn’t even wait one day.”

Catherine took out a transparent box from her bag. Inside was a full box of paper cranes. “Don’t be sad. This is for you. May the rest of your life be smooth and happy.”

His gaze fell on them, but the sour ache in his heart only grew stronger.

“Thank you,” he said hoarsely.

“What kind of reaction is that?” Aiden sulked. “Catherine stayed up several nights folding them for you. Last night, she got beaten black and blue, but she kept folding them anyway and insisted on bringing them to you today. She cares so much about her appearance, yet she didn’t even care if people laughed at her swollen face. And here you are acting half-dead.”

That stirred almost nothing. Vance simply repeated, “Thank you.”
