Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 368

Chapter 368

Vance felt like an idiot himself. The questions he had just asked were just filler-anything to keep

Rebecca there a little longer.

Gabriel looked gentle and refined with his gold-rimmed glasses, but he drew very clear lines when it came to grudges.

Rebecca’s parents and brother had long been written off in his mind. Why would he show them any mercy?

Vance had heard that Rebecca’s parents didn’t even want to leave the detention center. Someone had gone to post bail for them, but they had refused to come out.

The reason? It was safer inside. If they got out, Gabriel would definitely give their lives hell.

With his power, he could do that without leaving a trace. He was backed by the Rossi family, after all.

At a young age, he fought his way to the top and became the head of a massive family. It was practically a legend.

Vance just hadn’t expected that they were the same person. He smiled bitterly, not sure what had gone wrong with him lately, but everything seemed to taste bitter.

The food in his mouth was bitter. The water he drank was bitter. Even the air seemed to carry a faint

bitter scent.

That afternoon, Lucas came to his office and suggested they go out for a meal together with Aiden and

Catherine.

Behind his desk, Vance didn’t feel like going at all. “Forget it. I’m tired. You guys go ahead. I’ll foot the

bills.”

“It’s not about the food,” Lucas explained. “You have been down these past few days. I thought a get- together might cheer you up.”

Vance shook his head. “I’m not in the mood. Just go without me.”

“What’s wrong?” Lucas looked at him with worry. “You used to love hanging out with us. No matter what was bothering you, it would disappear once we got together.”

Vance froze. What was wrong with him? He didn’t know either.

It was just an instinctive reaction. Maybe he was tired of the noise as he grew older, preferring solitude and quiet.

“Maybe I’m getting old,” he replied.

Lucas giggled, “You? Getting old?”

But Vance couldn’t find any other reason.

“What exactly is going on with you?” Lucas sighed. “We all know you never really wanted to marry Rebecca in the first place. You didn’t love her. Now that you’re divorced, shouldn’t you be happy?”

“Yeah…” Vance murmured blankly. “Shouldn’t I be happy? But why don’t I feel anything? I really don’t feel good.”

“Are you just used to having her around?” Lucas guessed. “It’s normal to feel reluctant when someone suddenly disappears from your life. Like the dog I had when I was little. It was around for two years and then disappeared one day. I cried for a long time.”

Vance shook his head. “It’s not the same. Didn’t you love your dog? That’s why you cried.”

Lucas was stumped. “I guess I did love it.”

They both fell silent.

Lucas thought for a long time, then asked, “You didn’t fall in love with Rebecca, did you?”

The question hit Vance like a blow to the head. He had never considered it before.

“Okay, let me put it another way,” Lucas said. “You’re single now, right? Suppose you have two choices. One is going back to Rebecca, and the other is marrying Cathy. You’re single now, so you can marry her. Which one would you choose?”
